Which is more fun to watch: Old, black and white, silent films or that stuff we got around today? Personally, there's nothing more enjoyable for me than sitting down to a movie that's thirty years old or older. I loved the Clara Bow movie, It, and I thoroughly enjoy the Wizard of Oz (though the hanging man in the background gives me the heebie-jeebies). I watched Birth of a Nation last fall and it was the most inane silent film I've seen yet! Racist, too. But anyway, I did have some fun watching it. I played a little joke on my brother: there was a part in the movie that showed John Wilkes Booth shooting Abe Lincoln and my brother stepped in the room just as we saw that. So I pointed at the screen and said, "This is an actual documentary of when Lincoln was shot and the klan was formed." He believed it and was all enthralled in the movie, believing that it was a documentary. What a sap. Anyway, at the end of the movie, I said, "Do you think that was a documentary?" He thought it was and I told him the hard truth.
But anyway, silent films are fun to watch and so are really old movies. I love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. I like watching the old Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes cartoons; sometimes I'll watch black and white Mickey mouse cartoons from the '30's. The three stooges is also a blast to watch, too! In the loft of my garage, there is a box full of old reels of film that are probably worth quite a bit of money. We have a Fatty Arbuckle film up there, along with many others. I'm guessing they're all from the twenties. My dad used to show them on the wall with the projector at our old house. We moved to a log house, so there's no more viewing of those movies. :( And has anybody had the pleasure of seeing the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey? GOOD movie! I love watching that!
So who else around here likes really old movies? And which would you rather watch: old movies or the stuff we got these days? I definitely prefer the old stuff, though there are plenty of sweet movies nowadays.
