Hi sog..According to the scriptures we are to follow the teachings AND examples of Jesus and His chosen apostles..The following shows us examples of the disciples meeting(assembling together to perform the duties of a Christian) Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week,when the disciples came together to break bread, and in 1 Cor 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. These two passages,and other similar teachings plainly indicates that the Christian observance of the first day of the week, Sunday, "the Lord's Day," was already a fixed practice of the churches. upon the first day of the week  |

The scripture you refered to Christ saying; "On this rock, I will build my church" (Matt. 16:18) was fulfiled on Pentecost (Acts 2). And no, he was not speaking about Peter. Jesus asked the disciples who men in the world thought he was, they gave a variety of wrong answers. Then Jesus asked the question directly to the Apostles, "who do you say that I am?" (Vs.15). Peter answered; "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. This is what Jesus compared to a "Rock" and promised to build his church on, Not Peter! The foundation on which the church is built on is the fact that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. You can see that what Peter said was truth for in vs.17 we read, "Blessed are you Simon Bar-jo-na: for flesh and blood has not revealed this unto you, but my Father who is in heaven." So what Peter replied to was a factual truth, now in return Jesus replys with truth: "And I also unto you (notice the word "also") that thou art Peter..." See what's happening here? Peter spoke a truth, "Thou art the Christ" and Jesus also with "thou art Peter son of John." Now, upon this "Rock" Not Peter! but what Peter just got thru confessing with, that "thou are the Christ, the Son of the Living God, I will build my church; and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. As the Jews on Pentecost heard the gospel, those that were pricked in the heart (Acts 2:37) asked what to do to be saved? The Holy Spirit speaking thru Peter told them to "Repent and be baptized for the forgivenss of their sins (vs.38). 3000 responded to the gospel by doing so (vs.41) were saved, and then were aded to the church (established on this day) by the Lord (vs.47). I hope this clears up alot for you, and I believe reading what Rusure said again after this would be a benefit to all for this all ties in together nicely. Nikeinlogos |

The Scripture you are looking for is Hebrews 10:22-25 - "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLING OF OURSELVES TOGETHER, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
