Put a leash on your kid or something!!!! BabyCry

All right I thought that title would get your attention...

With all the recent abductions you wonder how it keeps happening over and over. I work at a store in the mall. We see parents all the time shopping while their kids are outside the store entrance. Sometimes they have them sit at the window underneath our maniquiens. Mean while the mothers are in the fitting rooms. These kids are often under the age of 8. These parents leave their kids at the front of the store sitting there bored so that they are not bothered while they shop!! Often times my manager has chased after kids who leave the store without the parent. She will come back with the kid and tell the parent that their kid walked out of the store and that they should keep an eye on their kid. The moms get mad at the kid for taking off but what do you expect from a four year old? They don't know any better the parent should know better than leaving their kid unattended. They will sometimes get mad at my manager for her telling them that they should keep a better eye on their kid but it is not her job to be watching their kids as the run out of the store. This has happened so many times and never has anyone said "thank you".

When I first saw those leashes for kids I thought that they were find of degrading for children but it would help alot if the kid is ttied to the parent and is never more than a foot away. I have seen parents with a lot of kids dreass their children in bright colored shirts. So all the kids are wearing bright neon green shirts. Can you imagine how much easier it would be for a person to locate a child if he stood out in the crowd because of the bright color as opposed to a kid wearing a white t-shirt?

Date: 8/13/2002 11:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 34487    I'm all for child leashes. Kids like to run and someone can scoop them up in an instant. If someone has something to say about my "leashing on my kid," I'll have something to say about theirs not being on a leash. good post.
Date: 8/13/2002 11:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 600    Speaking from experience......the wrist leashes can be a Godsend......I used them with my children when they were small so that they could have their independance, by walking rather than being carried or riding in the cart, and I could be connected at ALL times. The world's full of FREAKS these days, and it's up to the parents to at least TRY to keep their children out of harms way.....

Date: 8/13/2002 11:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 15033    I'll tell you, I have to get firm with some of the lil' monsters that are let loose in the store I work in. The mothers just saunter off to other isles as their kid throws items from shelves on the floor, smack glass bottles against other bottles till they almost break, open bottles (some of which no child should ingest because of potency) and some have ice cream and candy they drop and rub into the carpet. I usually ask the mother if she knows where her kid is a couple times, just to hint, and if they pass it off I go over to the child and say, you are going to come over here where your mother is to play, Okay? As I escort them to her. If they are screaming and throwing tantrums I say something about why big boys or girls don't cry. They often shut up. I have had to chase them down before when I noticed they ran out of the store into the mall and out of site in a crowd. Let me tell you, I see how it would be so easy to grab them and exit quickly. Once I was so mad at the parents for letting the kid get lost in the crowd I was tempted to take the kid and hide him somewhere till they learned their lesson. But I'm not that mean...:-\
Date: 8/13/2002 11:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53339    It is so frustrating to see the children running around the store while their parents go about their shopping with no worries while we are chasing around picking up clothes the kids dropped on the floor. Cleaning up the spills they make. We may work in the store but our job is not to babysit customers children.
Date: 8/13/2002 11:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 49091    I have seen those leahes in Disneyland a lot! The thing that annoys me the most is when kids are runns around and are at your feet when you looking for clothes. I was hit in the face before because a little kid was swinging this little bag around and i dropped a shirt and when i went down to pick to up the kid hit me. he looked at me laughed and ran after his sister...i had a mark for like a week and his mom was standng right there and she told me to watch out next time. i was in her childs way! i am like OMG then she TELLS the kids to go play while mommy looks for clothes...i was like WOW!
Date: 8/13/2002 11:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53339    Ep you should have started swinging your bag around and 'accidentally' hit her and said she should watch out next time because she was in your way.LOL
Date: 8/13/2002 11:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 49091    LOL Baby Cry..opps did i hit you...you were in my way!! LOL i like how you think LOL
Date: 8/14/2002  From Authorid: 10722    I remember people having actual kiddie leashes for their children that fit around the wrist. Whatever happened to those?
Date: 8/14/2002 12:07:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53339    Anomaly, I don't know but you would think that after working in the mall for a while I would have seen some one with them but I haven't.
Date: 8/14/2002 12:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 3321    Actually, the abduction rate really hasn't gone up. The Media coverage has.
Date: 8/14/2002 12:33:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53339    They said stranger abduction hasn't gone up.
Date: 8/14/2002 2:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 55980    If I put all my kids on leashes I would look like I was walking a pack of dogs. lol...I am an egg
Date: 8/14/2002 3:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 15677    when i was a child i would hang on the racks in the store in the middle of the clothing... i would hide so long that eventually my mom bought me a leash...lol this women came up to me an said 'you poor girl ur mother has u on a leash like a dog' i told her it was so my mommy wouldnt get lost lol. with all the freaks that r out there now there is no way my child is leaving my sight. my son was grabbed at kayB toy store when he was 18 months old but the guy got no where becuased i screamed an the guy behind the counter grabbed my child 2 weks later he grabbed a lil girl an went to jail because he was being watched. the scarey thing is i felt totally safe in this mall growing up here till that day. there r creeps everywhere everyone should becareful. an praise ur stroe manager it takes a villiage to raise a child especially when a parent doesnt

Date: 8/14/2002 6:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 48993    i am extremely over protective .... i am the mom in the store that always gets dirty looks and sneers when i yell at my son to " get your butt back over here NOW!" (and he is only 2 ft away ) I say let people look and sneer and mumble under their breath about what a terrible mother i am because i dared yell at my son in the middle of a store !!! I will continue to yell and i will continue to keep my son RIGHT NEXT to me .. becaue NO ONE can be trusted!! NO ONE!
