Look at Ozzie Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, Michael Jackson,-- they'll all die the same way. There's nothing humble about them. People look at their music- not who they were behind the scenes. And just like Elvis, there will be many documentaries that come out about their lives. Unjust or not.... |

I understand, but did you know that the "Black" musicians of his day, were angry that he "stole" black music (and songs) and them suddenly the music was embraced by white youth? I heard the song "Hound Dog" performed once by Muddy Waters, in Chicago's Olde Town. It bore little resemblence to the real song, but you could see where Elvis's music got it's roots. (on a side note-Muddy Waters also did "Redhouse", a song made famous by Jimmi Hendrix, and to this day, I can here Muddy Water's guitar "talk" through the song) <---sorry distracted. Anyway, I am proud of whom Elvis started to be, I am disappointed at what he had become. He had so much potential. |

A true Elvis fan looks beyond his last days and his obsession with prescription drugs, the true fans remember Elvis when he first started, making his music, on stage, singing to the world, the happy times in his life that he shared, the times with Priscilla and his baby Lisa Marie.A true fan, look at the good that he did in his life and not the bad that went on.I think you have to really see the goodness in a person, the inside demons he was battling came from so many things going on in his life, his fame, no privacy, losing his mother, the divorce of Priscilla, the downs and lows of show biz, the fear of losing his fans and the new singers that were appearing, etc. I can not give that man, Elvis, enough credit that he truly deserves. Many people tried to help Elvis with his addiction to prescription drugs, but the only person that could help him was himself and he was by that time, relied too heavily on drugs. You know something, Elvis truly impacted the music business with his music, his passion for singing, his fans, Graceland, charities he donated money to, his gracious offering he gave to people, etc.I only wished that he would have saw what he was doing to himself and stop with the pills, if not for himself, for LisaMarie. He should have been there for her wedding this past Saturday to Nicholas Cage.I think Elvis had a deep pain inside of him, he was a sad person that was struggling with himself. All day today, I just watched t.v. and saw all the shows and concerts, movies, and interviews of Elvis Presley.I will always remember the Elvis in his prime peak, when he was making his music, doing what he loved and loving what he was doing. He was truly a remarkable man.He just did not see what he was doing to himself in the end.I don't like to remember Elvis as the drug addicted, bloated, food addict, I like to remember Elvis, the guy that conquered everything he put his heart into. |

That song, for some reason, really touched me, and yes, people like the Rolling Stones, and John Lennon activily credited the "black" musican's for their influence. I am also partial to "JailHouse Rock" |

From what I heard about him he had a serious stomach condition that meant he had to take drugs that bloated him. If that's the case then he doesn't deserve this bad press. People praise him for his singing above all. I've never been a fan (obviously) but my grandmother was. He looked real cool in his youth though. A lot of people get fat when they get older. Coolade |

WE destroy celebrities. I'm not an expert on Elvis, not going to dare be, but it sounds from your post he was good ol' boy, but think about it, Elvis, who doesn't know his name. It's like that song by Eminem, don't remember the name, but he's mentioning that he'd like to be able to eat McDonald's with his daughter or use this restroom without being harassed. When you reach celebatory status, you lose your privacy. I'm pretty sure a lot of people were parasitic to him and leeched on to him for $ or fame. It's hard having true friends when you are a celebrity, I bets it's hard to be someone like Princes William and Harry, they were born into the spotlight, with no choice, every step, breath they make is scrutinized. Maybe he could of been stronger to fight off the negativity of fame, but he was only human and did what he could,....shoot I'm ramblin' again! B.Monkey13 |

i think people put to much stuck into people about prasing them after his death but he was a revolutionary for the music scene his "rebellious devil hips" changed the music industry more than you can believe and without him we wouldnt have alot of the bands we have in this day and age but now that i think of it nobody gives remembrance to rhandy rhoads(one of ozzy's late-guitarist) or jimi hendrix(who was the most inovative man in rock history) so why does elvis get so much credit |

I never really groked his music, he is not representitive of my generation, but he apperintly did some very groundbraking stuff, as an artist he is perhaps worthy of prase but like many artist he did not live up to your republican family values, but then again neather did Neut Gingrige, or Ronny Regan both were devorsed and screwed around on there first wifes while still married to them. I dont find them worthy of prase but some would dissagree. I think as an artist he was surpassed by the artists that followed, and that as he realized that he could never get the same level of artistic acheavement he turned to durgs and food ect...He was richer then the younger bands who followed him but he was the one who showed then the way. I think this tradgic flaw may make him even a more understandable and human charictor almost like a tragic hero of the greek or elizbeathian stage... BOo |

If we can have a "recovering" alchoholic and all-around idiot as president, why not? Besides...I think that most if not all Elvis freaks like to remember him in his prime, not the bloated, overweight, dead-on-the-toilet Elvis. Whether or not he had drug/alchohol issues shouldn't negate his achievements. |

Hi LSG, Im glad You said it. I never cared for Elvis very much, He had a few songs I liked, no acting talent whatsoever and from the bit I heard about his wifes book about Elvis he was a disgusting person. I've never been into hero worship so celebrities like Elvis, Madonna, Britney Spears etc do not impress me at all. They are not true heroes, but rather heroes of the media who seperate kids from thier allowance money. In my books Elvis was never a hero. Bye for now. Enki |

No he was a human being above all...demons or not he did alot to contribute to society and therefore he should be admired for that...however take what happened to him and learn from it.Besides we really shouldn't idolize any other human...putting them on a pedastal makes it hard for them to stay that way and makes their fall seem worse. We need to remember they are just like us with different abilities but in the end they have their problems and their demons. So if you are going to look up to someone like that then you need to be prepared for their eventual fall and keep in mind they are not a God just another person. |

I think he will always be "the king", if you will. And he was human. I don't think because he became overwhelmed with life and made mistakes that he should be considered of as any less of a person. If anything, it shows us that none of us are untouchable. No matter how much we have or how important we seem, we are all still just people. |

From the way you phrase the question it makes me think that you wonder if Elvis deserves a stamp, not really because he was a drug addict but more importantly because he gained the weight. The word "bloated" is the real tip-off. I know it is hard for most people in America or in most countries to think that heavy people are deserving of anything good that comes their way. Elvis was one of a kind, even though he had problems he was amazing in what he accomplished in his 42 years on earth. He was flawed but he was Elvis. |
