Mark Benton carried his jar of flies in his tool belt. If he didn't like the renters or if the job was too much to handle, Mark would leave a few of the maggot-making pests behind, as his personal thanks.
Most didn't connect the sudden infestation with the maintenance man, but they couldn't come up with a good explanation of the intrusion.
Randy and Margeret had just about had it with their landlords, how many times would they have to report a bummed air conditioner before it was repaired properly? Either the maintenance man was doing half-cocked work, or they needed a new system entirely. Never the less, everytime they had to call in for the repair man, Margeret became leary.
The first time he showed up, he didn't knock, but just unlocked her back door and made his way into her home. From the instant she realized someone was in her house, she began to panic, and after finding out it was another of Reyna's maintenance men, she was none to pleased and let him have it.
"Have you ever heard of knocking?"
"They told me to come through the back door," Mark retorted cooly.
"Well, my husband won't be pleased by this for sure." Marg stated as she led him to the attic opening.
Three days later, the air conditioner bummed out again, and Margeret was on the phone with Reyna's Property Management. "Will you please tell the repairman to knock first, instead of making his way into my home unannounced?" Marg requested Shelly, the company's receptionist.
"Did he just walk in last time?" She asked, sounding quite taken aback.
"Yes he did, I am never gone, I work at my desk at home, so I'll be home when my children get out of school, so all he needs to do is knock."
"Yes, ma'am, I am sorry for your inconvenience, it surely will not happen again," Shelly promised sincerely.
Marg was in the middle of a good book when several extra heavy knocks frightened her out of her chair. Already hot and stressed out, she answered the door and stated, "Were you trying to tear my door down? Our house isn't that big, my neighbors probably heard you knocking!"
Without saying a word, Mark tore off their old thermastat and replaced it with a new one. He then headed for the attic, to check on the machinery, and headed out the back door to work on the unit. After adding freon and making sure the vents were putting out cool air, he was gone.
'Creep', she thought, but at least he did a thorough job. Randy was greated by cool air, when he arrived home a few hours later, happy at last.
After a few weeks of wonderful air conditioning, Marg soon forgot about the initial problem, as well as the creepy repairman and went about her usual routine. When she opened the door of her guest bathroom, she was appauled at the sight of flies covering her tile walls. She began smashing them with one of the magazines she kept in there for long BMs, and they were easy enough to kill, she wondered if it was because they were so huge. She nabbed everyone of them and went on with her first intentions of straightening up the little room.
That night, she wanted to show Randy the flies she'd collected in her waste basket. "Come take a look Randy, there must have been about fifty of them," she explained as they walked past the kitchen to the bathroom door.
When she opened the door, her eyes filled with horror, three times as many flies covered the walls of the tiny space.
"I thought you said you killed them," was Randy's first response.
"I did, I can't believe this. Where on earth are they coming from?" She managed.
"I'll go get some Raid, maybe it will do the trick." Randy said, already headed for the cabinet beneath the kitchen sink.
A few days later, as Marg opened her laundry room, she was greeted by several bugs swarming around the spacious room. She ran out quickly and opted for the cleaners.
That night, the angry couple decided to take the matter up with the landlords, as they kept a tidy house and had no previous problems with pests of any kind.
Marg called and talked with Shelley first thing the next morning. Shelly said that others had rencently reported the same problem and that they were, at that very moment pulling up maintenance reports to see if they could make a link.
Sure enough, within the next hour, she called back with a frightening explanation and told her that they were on a list of homes to be exterminated.
Mark had planted the rapidly breeding flies in their airshaft, it took one more day without airconditioning to solve the problem, but she learned an even more valuable lesson from the mishap...when relying on others, always bite your tongue rather than their butts!!!
