I took Matt and some of his friends to a birthday party/dance. On my way home, my little sister called and wanted me to go pick her up so she could go too. I turned around and went all the way back to town to get her. I guess I got back home about 7 o'clock. I got as far as in the house and was going to put the dinner dishes in the dishwasher when my neighbor came over with her son (Matt's bestfriend whom wasn't allowed to go to the party). She informed me that Shep (Matt's German Shephard) had been shot and ran off and she didn't know where he was. Justin walked back outside and quickly returned saying that Shep was outside in the garage. We went out to him ad he was just laying there where he always lays. He was really breathing hard, his eyes were set in the back of his head and his tongue was hanging out and was pure white. He had broken his chain again and normally doesn't go any further then the neighbors house.
I called my bestfriend, Valerie, who's husband is our local vet. No answer, I left a message. I called her cell phone, no answer, I left a message. She called back about 30 minutes later and I explained to her what had happened. They were on their way. A couple of minutes later, Shep died.
I thought about telling Matt a story, saying that Shep had run away. I couldn't do that. He would have had me out all over the neighborhood looking for him and when we didn't find him... he would be waiting on him to come home. Matthew is a very sensitive child due to the illness that he has and I was scared to tell him fearing what he might do. He called Shep his bestfriend and always said that he could talk to him about anything and he wouldn't ever tell anybody. Which was true. I've never seen a talking dog. I told Matt the truth. He was and is very upset. He cried, I cried, we cried...we cried somemore. Shep loved to go swimming, we couldn't keep him from the creek. So that's where we buried him. His favorite spot. You never seen Matt without Shep or Shep without Matt. They were always together.
Beau and Valerie came right on, but it was too late. Beau said that Shep was shot with a 38 several times. The lethal shot was the one that went in right next to the rectum. Shep was bleeding inside and there was nothing that Beau could have done to save him anyway.
I could go on all night talking about the fun times Matt and Shep had and the joy and life Shep brought to my sick child. I can honestly say that for the first time in my life, I HATE someone. I HATE the person that shattered my Matt's heart. I HATE the person that killed poor old Shep.
Poor fella. May he rest in peace.
Hugs to all!! Zeeboette
