"I'm so sorry Cyndi. YOu know I love you and I didn't mean the things I said. Baby, please forgive me."
"Jeff, you hurt me. How could you say things like that and not expect it to bother me."
I'm sorry. Please don't leave me. I need you. I didn't mean what I said."
"Jeff, I'm not going to leave you. I still love you, but you did hurt me." Cyndi was crying. Jeff kissed her on the cheek and then on the lips.
"Let's see if Lindsay will watch the kids and go out to dinner. We deserve a night out."
"Sure. I'll call her and see if it's all right."
At dinner, Cynthia and Jeff talked about Danielle and the kids.
"Cyn huney, I want to file for full custody of the kids. Do you think you could handle it?"
"Of course. I was going to suggest it to you."
"Are you sure?"
"I"m positive!"
"Great, I'll call my lawyer tomorrow."
That night the kids stayed the night at Lindsay's and the next day Jeff called his lawyer. They were going to meet with him next week.
The next week, Jeff and Cyndi met with Mr. Houston. They talked about the custody trial for a while and then Mr. Houston turned to face Cynthia.
"Jeff and I have talked it over, and we're going to ask the judge if we win if you can adopt the children. Would that be all right with you?"
"Really? Jeff, you want me to adopt your children!" Cyndi started to cry.
"Does that mean you'll do it?" asked Mr. Houston.
"Yes!!" she leaned over to kiss Jeff.
The next day they learned their court date. It was in two weeks. Danielle tried to check Allison out of school, but Jeff had already informed the school of what the situation was so they didn't let her go with her mother.
Finally it was the day of court. Lindsay watched Kris while they were gone. Danielle was the first one to testify. She said that the reason she had been gone for so long was that her grandfather was sick and that Jeff and Cynthia knew where she was. Cyndi was disgusted watching her sit on the stand and lie. Two hours later, Jeff took the stand. He told the truth and then Cynthia took it after him. She made a point of how great of a father Jeff is. The judge took a recess and had all of them meet him back the next day at ten in the morning. The next morning the judge had reached his decision. Danielle lost all rights as a mother and Jeff became the sole parent of Allison and Kris. Then Mr. Houston raised the issue of Cynthia adopting the children. The judge said no, because she was too young, but to apply again when she was eighteen and he would agree then.
One day, Jeff came home with some bad news. His job was transferring him to Colorado for six weeks. Cynthia and the kids would remain home and his brother, Jonathan would come stay with them. The night before he was too leave, Cynthia began to cry.
"I'll miss you so much Jeff." she wailed. Jeff held her tight in her arms.
"I'll miss you too sweetheart. Don't worry. I'll call you every night. I love you."
"I love you too and you don't worry either. The kids and I will be fine."
The next day Jonathan drove them to the airport. Cyndi cried as Jeff boarded the plane. Allison started to cry and Jonathan held her and promiced her that daddy would be back soon.
During the day, after Kris was asleep, Cyndi started writing poetry. Jonathan would sometimes read it for her and comment on it. Sometimes they would just sit and talk.
"So, why don't you have to work?" she asked out of curiosity one night after the kids were asleep.
"My wife brings home five grand a month so were comfortable money wise. Both of us want kids but she can't have any. We're looking into adoption someday."
"So your happily married?"
"Married, yes. Happily, no. Aimee and I don't get along too well. She is a workaholic and if she's not working, she's complaining. We're constantly arguing about something."
"What did she say about you coming here to stay with me and the kids while your brother is out of town?"
"Nothing. I didn't tell her. I just told her I was going to stay with Jeff for a while. She's never at home anyway"
"Wow, Jeff won't even let me work. It kind of makes me feel trapped. I had more freedom before I got married than I do now. I'm only fifteen years old, married and raising two kids."
"Jeff's always went for younger women."
"How old was Danielle when they got married?"
"Jeff was nineteen and Dan was fourteen. They got married because she was pregnant with Al. Five years later she had Kris. A month after he was born, she filed for divorce. Dan took the kids and moved in with her parents. That's when Jeff started hanging out at The Max."
"That's where we met. You are so easy to talk to. Jeff loses his temper too easy."
"Yeah, that's one of the reasons Dan left. She just couldn't handle it anymore.
The weeks flew by for Cyndi. Jeff would finally be home on Sunday. On Friday night, the kids went to go spend the weekend with Jeff's parents so that they could get the house cleaned and ready for Jeff to come back home. After the kids left, Jeff went to go pick them up some chinese food to eat. After they ate, they watched a movie and went to bed.
The next morning, they both woke up early. Cyndi cooked them breakfast and after they were done, they started cleaning. By four o'clock, the whole house was spotless. After they finished cleaning, Jeff had some errands to run so Cyndi lay down on the couch and drifted off to sleep. When she finally woke up, it was eight o'clock! Jeff had fixed them a late dinner. After they ate, they cleaned back up the kitchen and went back to the living room. Jon built a fire in the fireplace while Cyndi found thier Scrabble game. After she won twice, they sat in front of the fire talking. Just then Jon leaned over and kissed her. She kissed him back, and they continued until she felt his hand moving up her shirt. She gasped.
"Jonathan, we better stop" she whispered between kisses.
"I can't." He reached up and stroked her cheek. The next thing Cyndi knew, the sun was shining thru the blinds in the window. She looked over at Jon, who had his arms around her. Cyndi got up and took a shower. She put on her robe and went into the kitchen to fix breakfast. Jon came in and sat down at the table.
"Cyndi, about last night...."
"Let's just forget about it."
"But....."
"No but's Jonathan. It happened and Jeff will be home in a couple of hours. I think we should just forget it even happened.
After they ate, he took a shower and Cyndi folded the blanket and put it back in the closet. Then she got dressed and fixed her hair. At two-thirty, they both stood at the airport waiting on Jeff. He jumped off the plane and ran right to Cynthia, swinging her around.
