My Brother, Tommy has a very short tempor. He blows up everytime my parents say no to him. They say "we have said yes to him so many times hes taking it for granted. We basically spoiled him" Well, they sai that his friend couldn't spend the night, and they yelled back and fourth for like 10 in the back room. I could hear them fighting, then Tommy cam storming down the hallway, into the front room, then the kitchen...he knocked the rash can over drumped it all over the place, knocked things off the counter tops and things off the tabel. I screamed for my dad and he came into the front room and screamed shut up to me then stormed throught the kitchen and out the door. My mom wants to get into counseling (Sp?) and she even mentioned putting him in Juvi Hall. My dad is the only calm one. he called his friends house and told him to please come home. My mo is ready to kick him out for doing this so many times. What do you think? Counseling? Juvi Hall? WHAT???? Thanxies!

Date: 9/7/2002 10:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Oh, wow....this is such a hard thing to go through...especially when you really love the person. However, I do believe in "tough love" mainly because I believe a person needs to learn to be accountable for his/her own actions and see the consequences of their choices....even their choices of behavior. I think counseling would be a good idea but, if it comes to it, I would also not hesitate to send the person away to a place where they are not able to emotionally manipulate those that love him with his anger. It's heartbreaking to go through something like this. I'm sorry that you and your family are having to deal with this...and hope that in the end it does turn around for all of you, including your brother.
Date: 9/7/2002 10:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49091    Thanx Lady NYX...my mom wants to send him to juvi for like 2 months then bring him home and see if he's changed any...
Date: 9/7/2002 11:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    It's just really hard, Enchanted Princess. I think sometimes as teenagers we all think that people are controlling us and that everything is "their" (parents) fault. I think that sometimes people have a hard time seeing that they really do have choices and that maybe a lot of the problems they think they have are their own fault because of their own choices. I think, in general, parents don't get enough credit for really loving and caring about their children and sometimes only are seen as "controlling" and "mean". It's quite a slap in the face when a person finally gets out on their own and finds that now not only do they have total control over their life...but they are also the ones who have to answer for their mistakes and get themselves out of the binds they find themselves in. And....that no one is going to care how "mad" you get when you don't get your way. You can't manipulate the boss...or the teacher...or your roommates with emotions the way you can your own parents. Man...family stuff is tough. Ouch...ouch....ouch!
