Heroes **Frankenstein

Even if you aren't old enough to remember any of what I'm about to say, I think it might touch your heart if you'll just stick with me for a minute. I promise, I won't make this long.

Two of the very sweetest and kindest people who have ever walked this Earth, in my opinion, came to mind for me tonight. I thought about Ronald Reagan for some reason as I was waking up from my nap. I thought of all that he had done for this great country. It's not just that he was a President, he was so much more. Even if you forget about his young life in the movies and the military, he has still left his mark. He was a role model. He was a real role model. There aren't many left like that anymore. It doesn't matter where you stand politically, he was someone to look up to. This isn't a debate. As a matter of fact, it's the farthest thing from a debate that I can even imagine. If you disagree with me on anything that I'm saying here, it's okay. If the urge strikes you to debate this, it is my hope that you'll do me the courtesy of simply stopping now and going on to the next post. When I think of the condition that dear man is in now and what his wife has to endure daily, it breaks my heart. May God bless America and may god bless Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

Just before I got up, thoughts of another great person popped into my head. What name do you put on a war hero, a beloved Father, and an actor who symbolized the best of this great country in a more innnocent time? I'd call him Jimmy Stewart. There I was in bed when I thought of him and I wouldn't be surpised if that pillow was still wet. Yes, I actually cried. "It's A Wonderful Life" is one of most everybody's favorite Christmas movies and "Harvey" is one that really struck a chord me. I can remember even now how that dear man used to occasionally appear on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He was getting quite old and he would read the poems that had written. They may be few and far between these days but some things are worth remembering. I'm sure if you close your eyes and clear your mind for a moment you can still hear his soft voice stuttering. There are some people who are just unforgettable.

Date: 9/8/2002 7:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    I cry just thinking about Jimmy Stewart. He was and always will be my favorite person. I just finished watching him in an old cowboy movie. "It's a Wonderful Life" is my favorite movie anytime of the year. I even have a Christmas Village of Bedford Falls, all the characters and buildings and it is my cherished Christmas item. I remember the day he died. I was pregnant with my oldest son and was at work and I cryed and cryed. Good Post.

Date: 9/8/2002 9:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 53689    Frank, may I add someone to this list? Reading this made me think of a couple of people that went out of thier way to entertain our troops in WWII, the Korean war, and the Veitnam war. Bob Hope and Martha Raye were two of the meny performers that did all they could to keep moral up for american durning these wars. Often traveling in places in which their own lives were in danger. My Grandma was Martha's personal assistant for a while before marring my grandpa, and she can tell you some of the best stories about these people (and Ronald Reagon too) Thanks for posting this!
Date: 9/8/2002 9:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 53689    Oh, I forgot, Martha Raye, while traveling to entertain the troops, would also perform nursing duties when needed.
Date: 9/8/2002 9:34:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    Thanks for the memories. I hadn't thought of Martha Raye in many, many years. There were many who gave the best of themselves for this great land. They just each did it in their own special way.
Date: 9/8/2002 2:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 54247    John Wayne! Will never forget one of his last pictures and we had our deaf son at the movies. Can't remember the name of the move, but he was shot and died. Our son started laughing, people were turning around to look at us. Our son was shaking his head "No" - no way, Big John never dies. Also Ingrid Bergman was so clean and beautiful! I know her life was controversial life - she dumped her husband for a famous director, I think. No one is perfect. RAT
Date: 9/8/2002 3:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47699    RAT, you're so right. John Wayne can never die. The same can be said for Roy Rogers. Real heroes never die.
