i hate it when people hate a band just because they've been on MTV. it's like they haven't even heard the band's music, (when they might actually like it) but instead they choose to hate it just because it's on MTV. I don't know why people are like that, but it REALLY annoys me.  |

What I hate is that the majority of television is inundated with pop. I mean it ain't the only style in the world. I mean sure there is headbangers ball but that's on really late at night.  |

I do not have cable and haven't had it since the early eighties when my Mother had cable for a little while...so I do not know any thing about Mtv anymore...lol Have a nice evening..:)

It's commercialized (all they care about is making $ opposed to say Blues music which most people are in for enjoment, you certainly don't make billions doing it) and appearance matters. In opera music there can be a fat lady as long as she sings good, but with pop they look for attractiveness before singing ability. For singing their voices are altered. Plus most of it is "one hit wonders", don't get me wrong I like a few "one hit wonders" myself, for example "In a gada di vida" by Iron Butterfly. Does anyone know any other songs by them? Probably not. What I'm sick of is people saying they hate pop music and then saying they like a band like Creed or something and they are such hypocrites. Everything you see on tv is pop-ular music. Personally I don't like the sound of pop music, I've never liked it. I'm into metal, grunge, and punk. Right now I'm listening to the Dropkick Murphy's, ever heard of them? :p  |

Yeah I've heard of the drop-kick murphys. POP music isn't what it used to be anymore. It used to be popular-music but now it is a genre and a stereotype for the really cheesy stuff you hear. This was done by record executives. While Creed may be POPULAR MUSIC they are not POP MUSIC. |

i live in australia and i dont have MTV. i was just saying that lots of people say that MTV is bad cause its 'too pop'. I dont often listen to MTV type music but it is fun to dance to. |

Well Optus Vision has MTV on it? Have you seen it at a friends place or something. I know Foxtel has channel V but maybe some of those regional pay tv companies may have it as well. |

i know a lot about MTV as i did an assignment on music videos and im right into it. im not talking about MTV as a TV channel, im just using it because its a word that basically means pop music. im not into defining pop music because i dont really care. if something sounds cool then i like it, even if it is mainstream |

i guess you can define pop music as the kind of music that has drums, guitar and maybe a piano. its basically a song with three verses and a chorus. it tends to be the kind of stuff you see in the front of a record shop. or pop music can be boy/girl bands, theyre easy to recognise. |

I don't know about anyone else, but if it has a nice beat to it, I like it. I like all kinds of music, anywhere from Manson, the Beatles, Culture Club, Ozzy, The Beegees, Guns N Roses, all kinds of different music, heck I neve like Shaggy, Arvil Lavinge, and a few Ja Rule songs (I love his deep voice) But I do have *ALOT* more respect for people who write their own music, and can play an instrument or two. I don't judge music by what its classifyed as. If I like it then I like it, if I don't then I don't, I could care less whats considered popular.  |

Well I was just trying to get a definition, because I think that Creed, Blink 182, or No Doubt area all pop- as in "pop"-ular. Pop has it's different genres rock/pop, punk/pop, and so on... but in the end it's all the same. Unlike un-popular music, blue grass, reggae, opera, jazz, death metal, blues, cajun or zeidaco (spelling?) |

i think people just just leave pop music alone it's not all for 13 year old girls.. and the message delivered in those songs are sometimes more apropriate then sex and drugs and beating people up like some of the hard core rock music. Pop has soo many deffinitions to it now-- pop stands for popular--- so yes it will be played alot i think songs can be deturmined but the a group because htere are soo many groups that dabble in a bit of every type and mixed together that there is no longer a strict deffinition... i respect all artists! because they are working at something they love!  |
