What helps you fall asleep? *PunkStarChik*

There are many times when I try to fall asleep but I can't. Cause I start to think. And I can never seem to stop to think. When I try, it starts up again. It's real hard for me not to think of anything and think of total blackness or whatever.

I want to try to find a way so that I can fall asleep faster. Sometimes when I'm really tired, I still can't fall asleep until like an hour later or so. I've heard that warm milk helps you fall asleep but I don't drink milk and the only milk that I have is powder milk that I use for cooking.

I don't have any sleeping pills or any medicain that will help me sleep. I used to take NightQule but I don't have any of that either....grr

How do you help yourself fall asleep? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Date: 9/8/2002 11:16:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    I hate having this problem. Cause I gotta wake up around 6am and I dont usually fall asleep until after 1 or 2 am.

Date: 9/8/2002 11:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    hmmm..I sometimes play games on the computer (boring ones like solitaire and hearts lol) until I feel tired enough, or else i'll just stay up and watch tv until i'm SO tired that I can't keep my eyes open anymore.
Date: 9/8/2002 11:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 20956    wine is great for this one!! But you obviously wouldnt want to drink it every time you cant sleep. Warm baths and relaxation techniques usually do it for me. If you are having trouble falling asleep on a regular basis, you should try exercising. Not only is good for you but it helps to wear you out making it much easier to sleep at nite. If i ever miss a workout i often find it really hard to 'switch off' at nite ~ too much left over energy i guess! Good luck :)

Date: 9/8/2002 11:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 56410    I hypnotize myself..
Date: 9/8/2002 11:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 3538    Wow, you sound just like me!I have the hardest time sleeping for no reason. I lay down, try to fall asleep and I am wide awake, so I go on the computer until I get tired, or if I have school the next day, sometimes I take sleeping pills and they knock me out , until the next day. I only take them once in a great moon, I do not rely on them, but I do find that they work. I can not think of anything else, but I will be coming back here to see if anyone has offered any suggestions!
Date: 9/8/2002 11:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 53961    A bowl of Cherrios with skim milk. NO CAFFEINE! Especially at night.
Date: 9/8/2002 11:35:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    I hate it when I can't sleep cause sometimes I feel like something is in the room with me and I wanna open my eyes...but I don't want to look. *L* I just wish I could fall asleep like Homer Simpson.
Date: 9/8/2002 11:45:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53909    I wish that I had some milk and tea but I don't. I'll see how I do tonight. Thanks for all your posts. I need to get some sleep for work...*hate work* If you know any others, keep the posts coming :)
Date: 9/8/2002 11:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    I have a meditation CD that I listen to. It's supposed to relax you and help you to meditate...but I find that if I play it while I'm lying in bed I get so relaxed that I usually fall asleep somewhere in the middle of it. LOL. It really helps when I think I'm not going to be able to get to sleep. The other way I use is if I focus on my body....starting at my feet and tense them and then relax them completely...then I do the same with my legs...and keep moving up my body....really making sure I relax each part of my body...I can fall asleep faster. If all else fails....I sometimes use melatonin....which you can buy in the pharmacy or in the drug section at the grocery store. Melatonin is a natural chemical that your brain sends out when it's time to sleep. So, taking the supplement makes you sleepy.
Date: 9/9/2002 12:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 16845    it normally on average always takes me about 45 minutes to fall asleep...whether I'm dead tired or not. LOL I always have my radio playing super low though and that helps me out :)
Date: 9/9/2002 2:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 23610    Oh...one other thing...I always have a fan on in my bedroom. The white noise lulls me to sleep.
Date: 9/9/2002 6:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 28848    I have this problem too. It takes me about an hour to go to sleep and that's on a good night. I try to tell myself not to start thinking about what happened during the day or about anything that I'm worried about, because If I do, I'll never go to sleep. What makes me comfortable though, is getting under my comforter. It's about four inches thick and weights about 10 pounds..lmbo! Then I turn the AC down to around 60 degrees and I'm off to sleep. :)
Date: 9/9/2002 8:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 53478    Lately, nothing helps me sleep. I can't fall asleep and once I do, I wake up and can't get back to sleep. It's awful Lavender has worked for me in the past, but not anymore.
Date: 9/9/2002 9:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    I help myself fall asleep my imagining I am at the ocean it helps me and what really seems to work is when I say I am never going to fall asleep and then I wake up in the morning LOL :)
Date: 9/9/2002 10:32:00 AM  From Authorid: 20104    Work out before you go to bed. A good work out always makes me sleep like a rock if it is right before bed. :)
Date: 9/12/2002 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 31048    Yeah, I feel your pain..I used to have the WORST time trying to fall asleep in the summer, and for the exact same reason too...I was just thinking too much! Hmmmm..not a milk-drinker, eh? I love milk. Only chocolate milk though, I can see why you wouldn't drink milk if you didn't have chocolate syrup to put in it. Anyways, milk really does help you sleep. Also, when I can't get to sleep, I do my breathing exercises..you just breath through your stomach really slow and deep, and it relaxes you a lot and makes you sleepy. Hope this helped :)
