Elementary My Dear Watson! ~ Hey Larry~

Apathy is alot like a stubborn mule. Forcing it to move won't make it budge.

I work in the Quality Department at a foodservice plant. And due to a mishap which apathy played a role, I find myself doing the work others should have yesterday.

No problem, I get a pallet jack and pull the product in question out from our warehouse freezer, they needed to have a date code on the box, which means we have to unstack the pallet, run each box through the conveyor system where the ink-jet can spray the code onto the box. Keep in mind the product must be seperated, and a notation made that the product was made the day before. Which is done by our computer for the record. And it also requires that you seperate the the product from yesterday, from the same product running today. So it requires two seperate pallets.

I was in the process of taking care of two pallets when in walks one of the newly hired floor supervisors. (He was supposed to have been doing this himself about two hours ago)

"You're going about this all wrong" he remarks.

"How so?" I asked.

"Well how can you tell what product you are date coding is the product from yesterday, versus the same product we are running today?" he quipped.

I smiled, as it was apparent he did'nt care for my initiative.

"It's simple really. First place your hand on this box", I replied.

"Wow, this is a cold box" he returned.

"Now place your hand on the next box coming by" I said.

"Hmmm, it's at room temperature" he concluded.

"Notice that the boxes that are cold to the touch have double-tape on top of the lid?" I returned.

"Yeah, so?"

"Well if the box is cold, it must have come fresh out of the freezer, where the temperature is -10 degress. And the fact that it has a double amount of tape on top means it must have gone through the system twice".

I guess he got the message, for he left without saying anything. Which was ok by me. For things were going fine untill he showed up.

Moral to the story?

If you are going to act like a stubborn mule, then don't get mad when the rest of the world continues to move on without you!
