Abby was experiencing another sleepless night. It was 1:30 am and she hadn't had a wink of sleep. She had stopped reading an hour ago, and she had been to busy to set up anything in her room. Since there was nothing to do, Abby decided she would try to force herself to sleep. She turned off the light and opened the curtains from her window. It was a much clearer night than the night before. This time the moon did shine it's glow into Abby's room. It actually gave Abby the creeps because the glow gave her room a sort of eerie look to it.
She got into bed, closed her eyes, and started telling herself she needed sleep. Not long after there was a horribly loud scream. Abby opened her eyes and got up. She stood still for quite awhile, her heart beating fast. She realized that her parents hadn't gotten up or anything. She opened the bedroom door, but there was nothing. "I must have been dreaming", she told herself. So back to bed she went. This time she just lied there with her eyes open looking at the ceiling, which looked sort of blue from the light of the moon.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
There was the scream again. It came from outside. This time there was no doubt. She hadn't imagined it. She couldn't have, there was no way. She hadn't closed her eyes, so there was no way she dreamt that scream. She tiptoed to the window, peeked but saw nothing. There was absolutely no disturbances outside. Not one person was out there, no footprints in the sand, no nothing.
Abby turned on the light and sat wondering. "Did I dream that? But I wasn't sleeping. Ok, I just have a vivid imagination. That's all. No one else seems to have heard it. It was just m___"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
The scream didn't let Abby finish her sentence. Now there was no doubt. That scream was very real, not an imaginary sound from Abigail's mind. She was sure the scream came from outside, but when she looked again, again there was nothing but stillness.
Fear overtook Abby. She ran out of her room and headed for her parent's room. She frantically pounded on the door.
"What's going on?" Inquired Cynthia. opening the door slightly.
"What do you think you're doing?" came her father's loud voice.
Abby caught her breath before asking, "Mom, didn't you hear that?"
Cynthia stared blankly at her daughter, not knowing what she was talking about. All she managed to ask was "Hear what?"
"Mom, the screaming. Didn't you hear it? Dad, how could you not have heard those loud screams?"
"Look", Carl said "You must have been dreaming, go back to bed."
"Yes, dear. It was dream. Now go back to bed." As she did this, Cynthia guided her daughter out of the room and into the hall.
Abigail walked cautiously back to her room, looking around as if someone could be hiding in the dark corners. She was relieved when she made it in her room safely. She got into bed, pulled the covers over her head and tried to get some sleep. She left the light on.
