It seemed like forever before Melanie's parents came to get her. She had grown quite sick of hearing Janice and Danielle talking about prom, acting like they had completely forgot about how two of their best friends had been brutally murdered. Melanie's parents agreed to stop by Jamie's house when she asked. When they got there, Melanie ran to the door and let herself in, a habit she'd had since kindergarten. She could hear loud music coming from Jamie's room. She passed Cindy who was still on the phone. Cindy pointed towards Jamie's room. Melanie could hear Cindy saying, "It is a tragedy. Well hun, I should go, bye bye." Then she hung up. Melanie was still walking towards Jamie's room. "What's up Mel, is there a problem?" Cindy asked. Melanie paused at Jamie's door. "No problem Cindy, just thought I'd stop in and say hi to Jamie." By then Cindy had caught up to her.
Cindy put her hand on Jamie's door knob. "Well, that was nice," Cindy said. She opened the door. "Oh no, oh my--" She ran into the room. Melanie stood in the doorway. What she saw was the worst thing possible. Her best friend of 17 years was laying all over her bedroom floor, a pillow over her face. "Jamie," Cindy said, softly at first. Then she screamed "JAMIE!!! JAMIE!!!!" She put her hand on the pillow and hesitated to pick it up. She turned around to look at Melanie with tears streaming down her face. Melanie started to feel extremely dizzy, then she felt herself falling backwards. She then felt her body hit the floor before she passed out completely.
