Especially in my home town, there are a lot of as you say, "babies having babies." Girls are having babies at a very young age. I've even heard of one girl at a local elementary school who was 12 having a baby. That's ridiculous. Myself, I'm 20 and I have faced the possibility of being pregnant. I'm not proud of it. It was a very scary time for me and it really made me put things into perspective. |

I maintained my viginity until I was 18, I failed my promises to God that day and a month before I turned 20, I found out I was pregnant...this post doesn't offend me at all...I stayed strong in my beliefs for as long as I could...this stuff makes me sad too about children having sex. Now that I am married, (six years) father of all my babies, I know what sex is for, and about, but I don't think 12-18 year olds can fully comprehend love or the consequences of sex, the "it can't happen to me" attitude gets so many in situations they cannot escape and they loose out on so many freedoms and experiences due to those careless choices...I am glad I had the chance to enjoy my teenage years, I had some of the most wonderful experiences in my life because instead of being caught up in thoughts of sex and drugs all the time, I was going on awesome trips with choir, youth group, and enjoying other clubs and activities I was involved in...children need guidance first and foremost...if my parents weren't there constantly reminding me of the consequences (pregnancy, disease, being used or disrespected due to free hand outs) I would've probably gone the green mile...on several occasions...LOL...second, the kids need to get back into clubs, sports and arts...the more involved a student is, the less time for naughty extra-curricular activities...my thoughts and I'm stickin' to them |

There are two ways of thinking about this subject, as in what do we do to reduce the amount of kids having underage sex. Do we A>ban all sexual content from the media (where most kids get their info either directly or via a friend) which would mean that children know nothing about the actions, and consequences of the act. This is partially what is going on now, with parents not talking enough about it. Sex is a taboo in most families and here is where the problems lie because when the topic does arise we are too embarrassed to have a cogent discussion on the subject. Or do we B> Talk about it as freely as we wish. This happens in Holland. Now I know we see the topless quiz shows as commical, but look at their teenage pregnancy rates, lowest in Europe, lower than the US by five times. Everyone above the age of 10 has sex ed classes and their AIDS level is very low too. So what is the answer? Do we keep going on this "moral crusade to make sure the old ball and chain (wedding ring) is applied before we lose our underwear, or do we talk about this properly and in a decent manner with our kids. They will be the adults soon after all and they should be informed of what awaits them once they enter the adult world, whether we as adults like it or not. Personally if either of my two step sons asks a question I will answer it to the best of my knowledge. I hope this will mean that once they get to doing the act, they will know what the outcomes can be |

No the promise ring was more of a mental and verbal promise. I had been with the boy for over a year and we met up during a college weekend...our emotions got carried away isolated in the privacy of my dorm...That relationship only lasted until midway through the following summer break...and I thought he was the one...haha...that's why you should wait...after him, I fell more easily, became more naive and ultimately went through more pain spiritually for letting myself go like that, if you understand what I'm saying...anyhow, I am only telling you guys this in hopes that ONE girl will read this and chose differently for herself then I did...Best wishes to all |

Hey Casey. This is a great post. I'm glad another teen sees this the same way I do, especially since you are a guy. So many guys also think virgin girls are a "challenge" and really try to make them have sex. I will remain a virgin until I marry. I don't really believe in those "church promises" to remain virgin, or rings like you mentioned. I know that I wouldn't want to put myself, my family, and my baby through all the horrors of a teen pregancy. Yes, I've thought of it, as everyone has, but I don't it doesn't mean as much to me as having a "life". Also what I hate is when teens to get pregnant, they usually get an abortion. The emotional scars of abortions are just horendous. If you get pregnant, at least go through with it and give the child life. Anyways, I think it's great that you have such great morals that many young people now a days don't have. |

Seriously, why would anybody want icky stretchmarks all over their bodies before they're actually ready? And why would anybody want to throw away their life with a baby? You know, once you have a kid, you are tied down and it really consumes you. My mom had me when she was 19 and she was married when she was 18. She divorced my dad and went to New York for a year and half or so. She felt pressured and I don't want to be like that. I can understand why she did it, too. I think that a person should wait until they're with someone whom they love. I'm waiting until I meet the right man to whom I'm going to lose my virginity with. : ) |

But we all think that a person is special. How would you know if that person is THE ONE to lose your cherry to. And what if that person turns out to be frigid... i.e. doesn't like sex? I don't want someone who's promiscuous, but it wouldn't bother me that their virginity was lost to someone else. And I am definitely in favor of sex before marriage. I remember seeing a t-shirt that had on it the words: "I am a Virgin" and on the back it said, "This is a very old t-shirt" |

it may seem like no one's a virgin at your age, but do remember that 17 year old males like to boast and that most guys don't want the other guys to find out that they haven't done it yet because it is looked down upon.
