"Requiem for a Requiem"

The twisted hands of winter wind,
Pluck the grass and leaves,
Deftly strumming, swaying, humming,
Singing in the breeze,

Ashen fields have borne them home,
The grey night-clouds close in,
A guiding light, just out of sight,
The threads are weaving thin.

He wonders why it's dark in here,
And hears the hollow thud,
Of scraping shovels heaving chunks
Of earth upon the wood.
