Hey ya'll. Well, I have a friend called Sarah. She's annorexic and has extremely low self esteem. She needs help, and people are aware that she is annorexic and stuff, but her parents don't think it's that big of a deal. Or they did and don't anymore because Sarah told me when she first quit eating her mom chased her around the house with a rolling pin trying to get her to eat. Now her mom will ask her to eat, but really doesn't do much besided that. The only adult who seems to take this seriously is her next door neighbor, who has talked to Sarah multiple times, but what can she really do? She's not her parent, so she has no control over Sarah. Remember I mentioned that Sarah also has a very very low self esteem? Well she just told me that her parents are seriously considering getting a divorce. She's really upset over this and I'm afraid it will just drive her over the edge. I think she thinks it's her fault. I really care about her, and I'm talk to her trying to get her to see how she should care more about herself and stuff, but I just don't know what to do. Any replies will be welcomed.

Date: 10/19/2002 6:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 58308    This really sadens me. My oldest sister was traveling down this very same road not very long ago. It took a very kind, concerned doctor to finally scare her into reality. I hope Sarah opens her eyes to the damage this can cause her and wish her luck. Much Hugs to you! Zeeboette

Date: 10/20/2002 12:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 48577    I have to agree with the other posts, but you could also talk to the parents and make them see that she is hurting herself and they can do something about it. One thing is make her see a doctor and if she don't start eating then they can put her in the hospital and put a IV in her to keep her with nutrients.

Date: 10/21/2002 10:37:00 PM  From Authorid: 56489    You got to tell someone I would try to tell the parents, if that don't sink in, Can't you call child services or something so she can get out of that situation to get the help she needs, maybe by then her parents will be through what ever they feel is more important than binding together & taking care of the situation that their well aware of their daughter has. Date: 10/22/2002 7:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    I have had eating disorders all my life. unfortunately she will have to decide to get help herself:( maybe the teachers will notice something
Date: 10/24/2002 2:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 49269    Help build her confidence up and just talk to her parents (if you feel comfortable doing so), about how she has low self esteem, and convince your friend to get some sort of help like conselling or something else. I hope this has helped you in some way. All the best,
