How Do You Know You've Injured Something You Can't See?...AerisVampire

Just like the title says, how do you know what you've done to yourself?

This is what happened to me: I did a Mario wall kick off of the raquetball courts at my school the other day... It was a pretty dang good one, until my left shoe came off. I lunged for it while we both were still in the air, but alas, did not catch it before we landed. To my dismay, I did not land forward (the direction I was leaning) but backward onto my unsuspecting right foot. To make matters worse, my ankle had twisted and my foot lay crushed under 120 pounds at a greusome angle. I sat there for a while, clutching my ankle, waiting for blood. But none came. It hurt just a bit after that, but the pain grew excruciating every untreated hour.

I have iced my ankle beyond what should be healthy, taken medications and every precaution and recommendation to make the swelling go down, but still my right ankle remains the size of three right ankles.

What did I do to it? Why am I in pain? Every reply is welcome.. I can use all the thoughts and suggestions I can get...

Thanks.. AerisVampire

Date: 10/19/2002 10:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Darlin, Maybe you broke it. I've broken my arms 3 times. The second time, when I broke my wrist, I thought it was just sprained and went around using it for 3 days like normal, cuz my dad said it would help it get better. We went to get it x-rayed when the swelling didn't go down, and, HAHA, it was broken. AND I had to remain Casted for 3 extra weeks because I continued to use it, and displaced the bone worse. My suggestion, SEE A Doctor before it gets too bad, if you haven't already!! Erin-

Date: 10/19/2002 10:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Won't they Excuse you from P.E. if you're injured? Erin-
Date: 10/19/2002 10:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 49498    can you wiggle your toes?
Date: 10/19/2002 10:14:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    Ouch, Emmie! Im sorry you had to go through that... And actually, no they don't excuse you from P.E. here... and I can hardly wiggle my toes.. I can't do it as psychotically as I used to be able to, but they still kind of function.
Date: 10/19/2002 10:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    I haven't seen a doctor, and I don't think I will. I have a feeling my HMO will just tell me to bound it to a popsicle stick and stay off of it for a day.
Date: 10/19/2002 10:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 49498    I would go see a doctor, it shouldnt still be bad
Date: 10/19/2002 10:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 53055    AV, I suggest you see a doctor....
Date: 10/19/2002 10:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    LOL... Yeah, and you'll be slapping yourself over the head later if you come to find it is broken and you've been walking on it. Seriously, I'd get it checked out. The pain sounds like that of a fracture. But if it is broken, and you didn't go check it out, I'll laugh at you, no, just kidding, I won't. Erin-
Date: 10/19/2002 10:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    Hehe, I'll laugh at me too... I just told Bloodstone in AIM that I think its a hairline fracture + snapped muscle.. then its gonna get an abcess and get gangrene and I'll be an amputee.. Ugh, I'm gonna die if they cut my foot off and I can never dance again..
Date: 10/19/2002 10:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    So go to the doctor. Getting an x-ray isn't as bad as it sounds, and you might get some fun pain killers :-D!!! Wait... I didn't just say that ;) heehee. Erin-
Date: 10/19/2002 10:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    Hehhehehe, I'm p-sigh-co enough... even spaghetti gives me a rush.. But painkillers couldn't hurt.. no pun intended.
Date: 10/19/2002 10:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 47699    I hope it isn't but I suspect that it may be broken. Get it checked out and let us know.
Date: 10/19/2002 10:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    I will, Frank. Thanks for your concern..
Date: 10/19/2002 10:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 53710    You might have fractured the bone, you may also have a muscle spurt! Which are not good i used to get them all the time when i got tackled by 190 pound guy espacailly when you weigh 110!!!!
Date: 10/19/2002 10:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    Owwwiieee... what, are you in football, or do you have siblings?
Date: 10/20/2002 5:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 53900    A few months ago I experienced the same thing you did only I fell down 4 stairs adn landed the same way you did. It really did not hurt at first at all. About 3 hours later I could not stand on it at all. A few weeks went by before all teh swelling and pain went away. I wrapped it in an ace bandage and that helped with the pain since I could not move it. I have a feeling yours is either a very bad sprain or a fracture. Not all fractures are teh sma e but just a little advice if it is broken and heals badly and then you go to the doctor they could have to rebreak it. They had to do that to my husband when he broke his hand. He waited for a few days and it was starting to grow back and they rebroke it. He said it hurt worse tehn when he broke it the first time. Anyhow hope it is not broken try to stay off of it as muchas possible and wrap it up when you do have to walk on it to keep it from moving. Also GO SEE A DR!!!!!
Date: 10/20/2002 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 59418    maybe its just gonna bruise..or a twisted ankle..i hope all is well..metal princess
Date: 10/20/2002 11:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 55970    Sis, just like everyone else says, see a doctor! As soon as possible :) *hugs* Hope it gets better!
Date: 10/20/2002 12:22:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 56410    ALrighty, Thanks everyone!
Date: 10/20/2002 3:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    if there is swelling and brusing and it hurts when you move it.. there is a good chance it is broken... if you wait too long to get it fixed it can heal wrong...
Date: 10/20/2002 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 53710    I have done something similar to that iwas in a mosh pit and ijump and landed on my ankle it didn't hurt till later. i did play football, no my only siblings are sisters and they didn't play football
Date: 10/20/2002 7:03:00 PM  ( Admin-JGB )   Just an FYI... I hurt my ankle it swelled, I could barely move my toes, and I didn't get it checked out... two weeks later still unable to move the toes much and massive pain, I finally went to the doc... they did the x rays and sure nuff I had broken it and been walking on it... to which they said too bad nothing we can do now!! It was nine months before I had full use of it and I still cannot wear spike shoes any more cuz of the pain! (years later still can't wear my favorite shoes)... PLEASE be smart and get it checked out :)
