Strange things I found in JRR Tolkien Books

  Author: 55546  Category:(Conspiracy) Created:(10/20/2002 5:33:00 PM)

I just read the Lord of the rings book, I loved it. But I found some strange things... For example:

1st- Legolas Greenleaf, Doesn´t legolas sounds like "legalize" and what´s the first thing that comes into your mind when you say "green leaf"?

2nd- Gandalf, Bilbo Sam etc... they smoke pipes, and when they do that they just relax, and laugh, you know...

3rd- Hobbits love to eat forest mushrooms.

I have many more but I´m too tired to write them, so I´ll finish the post soon.

Thanks

Date: 10/20/2002 6:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    The counte-culture thought of that years ago and it made the book a hit with them , however Tolkien was not reffering to drugs it was just taken that way. Many have also considered the book an allagory about WW2 which Tolkien vehamentally denied. He said it was a combination of his imagination his growing disgust with industy taking over farms and forsests and he drew on his vast knowledge of Celtic and Norse mythology both of couse influenced by his own expierences and Catholic faith for exemple the spiders in Mirkwood and Ungoliant and Shelob came from when he was bitten by a tarantula at age 9 while living in South Africa
Date: 10/20/2002 6:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 48712    that's interesting.. thank you for tell us that

Date: 10/20/2002 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    ...and even in the movie, when Bilbo and Gandalf sit down for a sneaky puff, Bilbo refers to it as "..the best weed in the Shire.." But if you wanna study sneaky drug references, check out Scooby Doo cartoons...its just loaded with them. Peace,

Date: 10/20/2002 7:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    Well that is an eye opener. Can't wait to hear the rest of them. And the whole fairytale fantastic adventures are like a big cillicybin trip.
Date: 10/20/2002 7:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    LMAO Agent Smith-- like whenever they step out of the Mystery Machine there's always a puff of smoke that rolls out with them! And Shaggy and Scooby ALWAYS have the munchies!!LMAO
Date: 10/20/2002 8:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 47865    I agree with Mrs. Strider. Tolkein was an Oxford Don who was an old man by the time the books were written. This is just coincidences. Incidentally I read somewhere that Hobbits were loosely based on the British soldiers under his command in the First World War- he was deeply impressed by their courage and decency. Best wishes
Date: 10/20/2002 8:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 59331    Its all in your head head head snicker. - dragonally

Date: 10/20/2002 9:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 61677    Is this all you got out of the books though? The books are a lot deeper then that so I hope not. *smeagol*
Date: 10/20/2002 9:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 21499    CC, I think that you live in a shoe, or maybe you are one of the kids at school who get excited when the new Harry Potter book comes out, but *I* knew what he meant by his references to pot, and shrooms, maybe i just have more life's experience then you, who knows, but hey, you can't know everything can you?
Date: 10/20/2002 9:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 59940    well, what comes into YOUR mind when you think of Green Leaf?

Date: 10/21/2002 1:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 8090    I guess JRR Tolkien likes pot and magic mushrooms....you'd have to be stoned to have an imagination like his anyways....lol
Date: 10/21/2002 3:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 56332    well spotted...although i think weed was used for medicinal purposes more than an abused substance when tolkien wrote this book,but it would be funny if he was ading a little unnoticed humour into it,good post..thegoose:}
Date: 10/21/2002 10:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 23319    I agree with ID: 8090!

Date: 10/25/2002 2:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 46266    LOL Kiki...oooh I hope not! I did crack up in the movie when he said "best weed in the shire" but no one else seemed to catch on. Much like many in this post.
Date: 10/25/2002 4:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 25481    I do not live in a shoe...I just find that really stupid that someone could be so immature to think Legolas Greenleaf and that they smoke pipe weed in the books is a sign of marijuana...It was another world..Middle Earth and perhaps there weed wasnt a drug..Did ya ever think?
Date: 10/28/2002 11:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 48771    I don't get it
Date: 11/9/2002 3:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 46266    Wow CheerChic. Get defensive much?
Date: 12/14/2002 9:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 51163    Let's see, Tolkien knew what he was doing when he wrote this, he knew about these drugs. But do you know why he wrote his books? Read his biography. Frodo is struggling against an evil ring that seeks to destroy him. Everyone else in his group fights against evil but Frodo humbily continues on dispite the loss of his friends. Who does Frodo remind you of? Who was abandoned in his most needed time in his hour of dispair even when his friends left him?
