Here's how it was explained to me in school. If you can use the word "also" instead of "too" then it is spelled too. (Example: Mary had apple pie and John did too (also).) The other time it is used is when you are saying something like "I ate too much"....or..."That room was too bright."  |

To is used as a function word to indicate application or attention ex: I am going to bed now. The word too can be substituted for the words very, so and also ex: You did too! (so) You don't seem too interested. (very) or I want to go too (also). I hope this helps a little.  |
