After years of dressing their kiddies and spending Halloween doling out mini candy bars, adults have begun to reclaim the holiday for themselves. "In the last seven years, our business has soared, especially for adult costumes," says Alan Geller, vice president of Funworld, a Halloween costume company. Nearly 30% of adults wear Halloween getups today, and while witches, vampires, and devils never go out of style, TV and movie characters are more popular than ever. In 1963 the longest-running science-fiction show in television history, "Dr. Who," debuted in England. It aired for the first time in the United States ten years later on PBS.
Entertainers who worked in the pizza business before they became famous include Stephen Baldwin, who was a pizza parlor employee, Bill Murray, who was a pizza maker, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, who delivered pizzas. Many years back, Julia Roberts and Christie Brinkley both sold ice cream. Before she made it as a pop singer, Madonna sold doughnuts at Dunkin' Donuts. And in the burger arena, Jennifer Aniston was a waitress at a burger joint, Queen Latifah worked at Burger King, and Andie McDowell was employed by McDonald's.
