I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 months ago and I have never heard of it till then so I thought i would write this.
PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a Hormome inbalance in women that interferes with normal ovulation. Irregular or absent ovulation causes symtoms of PCOS to develope. It can also affect your cardiovascular system, metabolism, thyroid disorders. Because of the wide range of symptoms PCOS in considered a syndrome. Symtoms include, weight gain, irregular or absence of periods, hair growth, acne, symtoms of diabetes, pelvic pain, insulin resistance,depression,infertility, much more, and 74% of patients with pcos have infertility.The ovaries become enlarged and contain several abnormal cysts, due to lack of ovulation. The cause of PCOS is not known but your more likely to have it if your mother or sister does. PCOS occurs in 5% to 10% of women age 20-40. There is no cure. Treatment depends on the symptoms that you are having.
