I've worked at a lot of places in my life and some of them were in retail. I understand exactly what you're talking about because I've done it and it's much the same everywhere. There are both good and bad things about working anywhere. At least that's been my experience. |

I'm am so with you! I have been working in retail for 7 years..since I was 18. I have been working for the same company though in different stores the entire time. When I finally quit I won't be going back into retail! A good customer can really rbighten your day...but a bad one can ruin your WEEK! I've had people call me obscene names and even threaten me...as if I should HAVE to take that as part of my job, which I don't get paid much for! I don't understand why people go out with bad attitudes and take it out on others...stay home and make yourself miserable! GRRRRR....now I don't want to go to work tomorrow either!! ~SilverFire |

You have a point midnightly...they offered me human resources at my store...I didn't want it but I had no choice lol. I figure now that at least I can take that experience and LEAVE retail while I go to school. I'm saving up for a darn car so I can get another job and get my butt in school! The smaller stores are ok... But like in a big store, they usually have you working in one department..and in a small store, sometimes you have to work a couple departments. |

OMG where do you work at. For a sec I thought you work at my store. Except mine is a clothing store. We have rude and incosiderate customers who leave pile of clothes in the fitting rooms. We have people who spill drinks and won't even tell you there is a spill. Some of the girls are really lazy. Like today.... me and the toehr manager opend the store. The store was a mess. Nothing was done the night before. The floor was not swept and the mirrors were all dirty. clothes was on the floor. It was really bad. It was disgusting. |

BabyCry...I know what you mean. The parents always get mad at us for asking to keep their children with them. I hate it when they bring up a pair of clothing and ask us. "How much is this? There is no price on it" And they expect us to know how much it is right there and then. Yea...I've gotten questions about if we had other sizes or colors... |

We always have stuff on sale. SO customers sometimes think that everything is on sale. We always get asked "is this on sale?" "No" "How about this?" "No" How about this?" "NO" I mean if you have to aske becasue there is no hang tag it probably isn't on sale. |

BabyCry....whenever we have something on clearence, we usually stick a red sticker of the reduced price...then people come up with a non red sticker and ask if it is on sale. Of course it's not. They also like to try to switch prices to get the stuff cheaper. |

SilverFire, I KNOW! I have like 50 piles of clothes being held for 50 different people back in stock and THEY NEVER COME BACK TO PICK IT UP! And when they do, it's like 5 days later! "Oh I'll be back later on tonight!" YEAH SURE! And this drunk lady made me get the hook and take down EVERY SINGLE JACKET on the rack and then she DIDN'T EVEN BUY ONE! I was like "UGGGGH!" And I hate when they QUESTION me. Like I'm stupid! "Um excuse me Miss, but did you take the 15% off? Because this seems more than it should be." "Yes, I'm sorry I didn't explain it.. the clearanced items don't get the 15% off.. only the jacket." "Well it clearly said in the ad that it was 15% off everything with your charge card." "I'm sorry ma'am, clearance items aren't marked down." "So they expect you to know all the rules??" "Look.. (*points to the receipt*) You got a good deal on the clearance items as it is." "*sigh* This is why I hate shopping here.. *walks away*" Well WHATEVER to her! I'm not the freaking manager! I do my job! I don't bend the rules for some PMSing customer! |

Awwwwww sweetie I have worked part-time retail nearly 7 years now. Thank God it is not my main source of income. I have learned so much about people working in retail!! What people expect, how rude they are and how low some can go just to get away with something. I have witnessed children out of control...like running the dressing room bell numerous times.....and finally I walk over and tell the child to please stop.... or you will bring security to the floor...then the parent is angry at me?? Recently a Mom let her 2 year old toddler wander in the store.....and I ended up following the little guy, for fear of being taken?? What is up with a Mom like that? Seeing what some customers will do to steal from the store and when confronted....personally attack me? I have lots of stories if you ever want to share. On the other hand, I have met some great customers that treat me and other associates with great respect. |
