Thanksgiving with my other family~~~TarheelGirl

I have been very bummed out because this Thanksgiving is the first EVER that I will spend away from my family. I can't stand the fact that I won't get to see my mom and my mawmaw for Thanksgiving. I moved to Mississippi about a year ago (right after last Christmas) and I am now 13 hours away for my family.

I had planned on cooking a nice Thanksgiving dinner for my boyfriend and myself. I found out today that several of our friends are going to be staying in town for Thanksgiving. Most of these people have become our "other" family. (Several of the guys call me mom because I feed them all of the time and make sure they have a safe place to "crash" when they have been drinking) We are all far away from our families. Most of us are college students. So I decided to turn my little dinner in to a big get together for everyone. My friend Dana is going to help me cook since I have never tryed to cook a turkey before (wish me luck!)

Now I am so excited. Not only does it make me feel better, but I have the chance to brighten everyone elses holiday also! I don't feel so bad about being away from my family because now I can feed my other family!

I better start ooking up some recipes. Does anyone have a good recipe for Candied Yams?

How it changed my life:

Made it a bit better

Date: 11/18/2002 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 21435    That's cool, Tarheelgirl. Way to adjust and make the best of it. I bet that it'll all work out wonderfully. Write on....
Date: 11/18/2002 7:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 47699    Send us your turkey and we'll take care of it for you. We recently abducted some Amish people and we're keeping them under the porch. We usually just give them some stale biscuits or Pez or something. When we get the turkey, we might not give them any of it but we can tell them all about how good it was so they can kind of...well, sort of have Thanksgiving. They're so nice. They're nothing like those Quakers we had last year. Two years ago, we had a few Jehovah's witnesses. I guess that sort of thing is a tradition around here. If there are any Muslims left alive at this time next year, we might get some and put them in a little box.
