In my state, it's illegal to leave the classroom during the last 45 minutes of school. Don't ask me why. <--Just another reason I'm glad I finally graduated |

If I were her I would have walked out after the first 'No...' sorry some things teachers shouldn't do and that's one. I think they SHOULD allow kids bathroom times without question UNLESS a kid does it EVERY day....and it's obvious they do it to get out of class.... |

I think that its rediculous that teachers won't let kids leave to go to the bathroom during class. If its an emergency, and the teacher won't let them leave, then I think they should just walk out without the threat of getting in trouble. |

I'm kind of split on this, bc you can't have every single student just jumping up and going to the bathroom, that would be chaos. but you shouldnt be expected to hold it **too** long.. I think a teacher should permit this some of the time but not everyday, bc there will be students who just say they have to go to the bathroom.. So do I think students should be able to just get up and go to the bathroom? No. Do I think they should have to wait until the end of class? No. Somewhere in the middle. ;-) |

I think if you gotta go you gotta go. Perhaps a 10 minute time laps be allowed. I know they don't want kids out messing around. If you gotta go you got though. My teachers where all cool except my kindergarden teacher so I took a pee on her desk chair. She never not let me go again. It is not right! And she got in trouble for it cause there was proof I had to go bad. We even had a bathroom in the class when I was in kindergarden. When my Mom told me to do that she had no idea I really would LOL Looking back it was classic! |

well if a female is having a female problem i think they should be allowed to go to the washroom and take care of it.. it's not a pleasent thing and i think the guy is abit of a arse and has NO idea what it's like to deal with the female problem... me personally i would have been very blunt to the point of rude on what the EXACT problem is.. even if it sounds disgusting |

I agree that a student shouldn't go to the bathroom more than once in a class period..I think that a girl should have the right to go if she has a female problem, but I also think that some girls misuse this option just so they can go brush their hair and reapply makeup, or sometimes just because they're bored. Believe me, there are some girls in my last period of the day that have to "go to the bathroom" at least once during the classperiod. And I know for a fact that they don't use the bathroom, only the mirror. All in all, i think that girls should be allowed to go if they have those problems...but not so if it's ten minutes after class has started or ten min. before the bell rings...that is the rule at my school.. |

I agree with midnightly, in that if the teacher (pointedly a male teacher) is going to be a donkey's behind about the situation, well, I'd begin telling him exactly why I needed to go to the bathroom... |

My mom went to the school and really threw a fit and I didn't get suspended. When Ya Gotta Go, you gotta go!!! *Hells Lil Angel* |

I remember back in school a boy in my class had to go but the teacher wouldn't let him. He told her he really had to go and she yelled at him to sit down. So he did and well he had an accident. His mom came to pick him up and she came to the room yelling at the teacher in front of all of us students. I would be angry too if I was her and that was one of my kids. I think kids should be allowed unless they are abusing it, but other then that they should be able to. *Smeagol* |

while alot of kids use having to go to the restroom as an excuse, this does not mean that all kids use this. NOW any teacher should respect the fact that this young lady said she had personal needs to take care of, I Mean HOW does he know she didnt? I guess I was a bad child when in school. I didnt ask, If I had to go to the bathroom I walked out the door. I know, not a good example, but hey, when ya really have to go, you really have to go. |

This whole thing is nothing to do with her having to use the bathroom and everything to do with your teacher being on a power trip. And don't think you're done with them after high school. Last semester, Sixgun and I were in a math class together. You would go in, take the test and then she would go over the problems. We wanted to leave one day and she gave us a hard time asking why. Tim finally told her that he was 30 years old and didn't have to explain himself to her. We never stayed for the entire class after that, just for the test. We did our studying at home. It drove her nuts ;) |

I'm female, and if I'm having female problems, then I don't give a darn weather the teacher says yes or no I'm gonna go. I mean, I can understand them not letting you if they're going ALL the time to get out of class.. But teachers should let you go, heck lol at my old school, if I had to use the restroom, I just got up and left lol. |

I think when a person really needs to go, then they should be allowed to do so. Wether it be a personal time of the month, or when the baldder is full. If that person returns to class within a reasonable time frame, then what's the problem? If they don't return to class, then perhaps something else may need to be addressed. But there is no sense in making another suffer when nature calls. |

vg and jester, those are some rather bizzare rules your schools have. teachers can not keep you from going to the bathroom unless you have parents that don't back you in the pursuit of justice. i always told my girls (it was a problem once, common occurance in h.s.'s) that if they really had to go and a teacher wouldn't let them, to just get up and go anyway and return to class in a timely manner. i also told them if i found out they were doing that and it was just to get out of class and mess around, that i would bust their butts. a good teacher that cares for and is involved with their students usually has an inkling of which students would pull a stunt like that by now. it is november for pete's sake. as for good students that you'd never think would do it, but actually do once in awhile? who can blame them for wanting a little break, and haven't they earned it? lol. besides, we grow up into adults and alot of adults seem to forget how hard it can be to get your personal necessities taken care of, get your books from your locker (lots of schools in ca. don't have lockers anymore, what about other states?) and make it across the school to your next class in five minutes can be. not to mention getting lockout for being late. (in my experiences with the girls, i found lockout to be ineffective and a waste of time. it accomplished nothing exept providing more slack time) anyway, that was long winded enough lol. bye all!...doheney |

well, as a parent, i would fight it. like heck someone is going to tell my kid they can't use the bathroom. and what you said about district wide no pass days? i honestly don't see how they could get by with it. using the bathroom is a basic human nessecity. does your school have lockers btw? kids at our schools had these huge extended backpacks, you know, four and five sections wide to carry their books around in because there was no lockers. 60 pounds plus. and then some of the schools let the kids use rolling backpacks to ease their load, but some schools call them a safety hazard and won't allow them. i figure if there is no lockers and no rolling backpacks allowed, then there should be a set of books for class and a set of books for school. not a big deal, if you wreck or lose the book(s) they make you pay for it before you can go to graduation, the prom, or get your report card. |

That is ridiculous. Since having to go to the bathroom (for any reason) isn't something your body can control, what gives any other person the right to keep you from it? I'm glad he got in trouble. I've never understood why teachers won't let kids go to the bathroom whenever they need to. Like they say... When ya gotta go, ya gotta go :) |

Most of the high school teachers that I had basically had a policy that if you needed to use the restroom, to just quietly go and do it. I can't imagine a situation where I would actually have to ask permission to take care of personal needs. If that were my daughter, I would have a little chat with him and I'm pretty sure he would form a new policy...... "Born to be wild"!!!! |

That's why college is nice, you can walk out of the class at anytime and no one stops you. A couple of my teachers in high school had caught onto a good idea. Leave when ever you have to or would like to. If you leave too much you fail because you miss out on quizzes or tests, otherwise there are no problems with that system. |

we have the same problems in school everywhere. my choir teacher made me hold it until i felt sick......and when i told him that i felt ill, he let me go to the nurse....saying that the nurse could help me with my problem...um...i think he thought i was constipated...hah anywho, i went to the bathroom but only after i was already getting myself sick! thats holding it for too long....i think teachers just like to hold their leadership roles. i mean, its unfair when nothing is going on and they still dont let you go..i'd understand if something was being explained..but otherwise, we should be able to go! |
