Does this make any sense to you?

Every so often in my town, the police set up checkpoints on the highways and check licenses and tags and whatever else. Anyway, a lot of times its around the holidays but sometimes its not. Anyway what bugs me is every time they do this, they publish it in the newspaper ahead of time warning that it will be done. Not only that but they give out the exact location of where the checkpoints will be set up. So whats the point? It just makes the drunk drivers, people driving with expired or revoked licenses etc. take an alternate route. It says in the paper that the warning is for safety reasons. I think we'd be a whole lot safer on the roads if they didn't warn drunks where the checkpoints are gonna be. Does anybody else's town do this?

Date: 11/25/2002 10:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    My town doesn't do this, but if they're giving people warnings in advance, there isn't much a point in doing it..
Date: 11/25/2002 10:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    Phoenix does this every holiday, and they still seem to catch quite a few errant drivers. I guess that not everyone reads the warnings. good post.

Date: 11/25/2002 10:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 36901    Our town has the check points, but I'm not sure if they publish it ahead of time. I think it's pretty useless to publish it first.
Date: 11/26/2002 12:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 6050    My town and surrounding towns do that..They just assume that the warning will keep them off the streets..but, it's precisely as you said..they will always find another route.
Date: 11/26/2002 2:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    KC..They will never find Waldo..He outsmarted them..It took a lot of connivin' to figure out how to get around those sitting ducks, but he did it and he took another route.
Date: 11/26/2002 4:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 52141    My home town does the checkpoints but they don't post them in newspapers they just do it randomly most of the time late at night..heh normally to catch newby drivers that aren't supposed to be out driving past the curfew hour they have set there...
Date: 11/26/2002 8:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 3538    I do not think our city does this, but , then again, you never know who is watching your driving. When u least expect it, that is when they get you.
Date: 11/26/2002 3:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 51407    I'm not sure if our town does this, but I agree with you. Or they could simply bring everything with them for that night only, and then when they don't have that checkpoint they go on without their stuff. Its not very useful, like you said!
