Would You Like A Job Like This? **Frankenstein   Author:  47699  Category:(Discussion) Created:(11/26/2002 6:34:00 PM) This post has been Viewed (332 times) After I left the insurance agency earlier this year, I went to work waiting tables at a new restaurant here in town. My bride was doing the same type of work at another place not too far way at the time. She doesn't drive so it was important that our schedules were similar. At the place where I was working, the staff was way too big even though it was very busy most of the time. It wasn't unusual to see long lines waiting outside the doors. Even though that was the case, once we'd clocked in, we weren't allowed to go back outside for anything until after a manager told us we could go home for the day. More than once, I heard waiters and waitresses asking the managers if they could go out to their cars to get some medicine or their glasses and they were told that they couldn't. Breaks were practically nonexistant. When the place closed at night and all of the customers were gone, there was a chain put on the doors so we couldn't get out without a manager letting us. Sure, we could have used the emergency door but the alarm would have gone off and we would have been fired. It wasn't unusual for me to be scheduled to get off at ten and not get out of there until midnight or after. Even though I repeatedly explained that I had to go because my bride was already off and she was waiting for me, it did no good. They would just say, well, none of us are leaving until this, that and the other are done. I walked out of there one night and decided that I was never going back. My bride was still working so I decided to take some time off to try to get my first book published and as you probably know, I succeeded in doing that. Then I started working at the grocery store where I am now. Anyway, that restaurant where I worked was a nightmare and I couldn't tolerate it any longer. The one where my dear bride was working turned out to be horrible as well. I'm happy enough now just as long as I can get scheduled for enough hours. Anyway, that restaurant was a lousy place to work and I've heard that I'm not the only one who thinks or thought so. What do you think? Do you think that sounds like a good place to work?
