I never really understood how a group of supposed intelligent people could show such downright arrogance and stupidity. I cannot understand who they think they are, why they think they are so special..Anyone with a brain would understand that this world is made up of living breathing human beings all of different colors and all with rights to life. If stupidity and arrogance had a color they would be it. |

they are all just a bunch of sick cowards. theres no justifying anything they do. what it really is is defiling a religous symbol for the use of hatred |

That "why do they hide behind the mask" question really irritates me. They aren't hiding their faces because they're cowards, they simply don't want to go to prison. Not cowardice, but good sense, amazing from a group obviously so lacking, but true all the same. On top of that, lots of them DO take their hoods off and DO let you know who they are because they are PROUD of what they believe in. Just like you. |

If that's the way you feel, fine. I think there are lots of people in the world who probably find some of the things that I'm rather proud of pretty disgusting. :) |

While it is very disgusting that ANYONE would do such things while hiding; it is NO different than the atrocities of MANY people who hide behind their religion. I see it all the time; but of course, no one sees THEMSELVES as being like that, right? |

It's a misuse of terms. You could also say "igniting" the cross... |

When I lived in Fl I had the non pleasure of meeting a KKK memeber. I had no idea he was in the KKK. We hung out and went to race shows. Oneday he told me we had to stop by somewhere so he could drop a tape off and I was shocked to where we went and what I saw. I acted cool while they had their meeting or whatever it was outside. I told my friend I had female problems and that I had to go home. I avoided him until I moved. They are sick! |

The KKK was originally formed because of problems that arose after the Civil War. While the south was still under Union occupation, carpetbaggers had a free reign, and could do mosst anything without fear of repercussions. The early formers of teh KKK did so to try and act as a force against unscrupulous carpetbaggers. They also were quick to take care of their own kind when they did things that were not deemd respectable. If a white man beat his wife, he could expect a visit from the Klan. In those early days, hoods were worn so that people would not recognize the members of the Klan. Many highly respected individuals were members of the Klan, and at that time, the Klan was still considered a secret society. As time went on, the goals of the Klan changed, until they reached the point they are at today. They became more of a hate group, rather than a group that was only interested in correcting definite wrongs. The hoods stayed a part of the Klan for those who still did not want or need their identity revealed. Most states have passed laws though that do not allow Klan members to wear hoods in publc. As for the lighting of the cross, that is what it is called, "lighting the cross", and it is a symbol of purity. Now though, that symbol is racial purity. The lighting of the cross though is not something only symbolic of the Klan. There are some religous denominations whose symbol is the cross with the flame. The lighted cross was around long before the Klan. |
