Red, White, and Blue....Sucks.......((BST))

Red, White, And Blue

Flying in the air,

oh so high and true,

waving beauty of colors,

red, white, and blue.

This is our flag,

to which we pay our due.

Old glory we call her,

so red, white and blue.

However, she does not gain our pledge,

as high as another object of love,

something else should be flying,

oh so high above.

The symbol of a dollar,

for that is our true love.

Money keeps us going,

and should fly like a dove.

Kept high in the sky,

the object of our affection,

red, white, and blue,

the object of my perplexion.

Why do we pledge to this thing,

when we really love our money,

red, white, and blue means nothing,

green is where it's at honey.

Capitalist america,

forget red, white, and blue.

If you wanna be american,

You would worship the dollar too.

How true does this ring? Should we change the American flag to a dollar bill? Because truely, that is all we are about. Not the people, money. Money Money Money..What do you think.

(Btw, that is my poem, don't take it without my permission, por favor.)

Shelly

Date: 11/26/2002 10:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 53055    wow, that's a good poem, Shelly. It brings up some good points too. We are about money....Hoping to get someone to actually argue with you this time? :)
Date: 11/26/2002 10:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    Well...ask yourself...are YOU about money?? Are those Americans on USM about money?? I'm not American, but have interacted with many Americans both online and in real life...and I would say that nope, America isn't about money, at least not those Americans I have had the pleasure of meeting...America IS the people...not the Institution...not Commerce...its you and every other American that truly makes your country. Peace,
Date: 11/27/2002 12:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 7830    AMEN!! thats all i have to say. this poem is so true.
Date: 11/27/2002 1:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    hehe I love your poem Shelly...I agree with you, it seems lately America is all about money..
Date: 11/27/2002 5:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    I read your poem with a very open mind. I am an American.....I can honestly say for the average working American it does not apply. Most Americans want to provide for their families unlike any other country is doing for their own families.... Corporate America, Wall Street and certain places in Government....yes, money is a big issue. I hate it too.
Date: 11/27/2002 6:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 51635    Nope, thats not what we're all about so speak for yourself ... I wave my flag proudly, not for love of money, but for the man and women who braved the Atlantic to settle a "new world", for the people who stood up to a self righteous king for they're freedom, for the people who have defended our constitution and our way of life for more then 200 years, thats what America and Red, White and Blue are about...greed is an idividual's feeling and attitude not our country's ...
Date: 11/27/2002 7:29:00 AM  From Authorid: 33817    So I assume your a socialist?
Date: 11/27/2002 7:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 51635    So what happened to the author here?? it doesn't look like anyone has come back to really debate this ...
Date: 11/27/2002 7:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    Actually it is a consumer economy that helps drive an economy, creates a middle class and eliminates poverty. It is the taxes of the sales an income driven by consumer purchases that provide our semi-socialist states with the income to provide the socialist programs you probably adore. Hugo
Date: 11/27/2002 8:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    This is really sad. I'm not about money, my family isn't about money, people I know aren't all about money. I don't know where you come from, but it musn't be a very happy place if the only ones you know are only about money. Maybe you should expand yourself and join the Peace Corp or something.
Date: 11/27/2002 8:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    There are a lot of lonely trees...go hug one. Hugo
Date: 11/27/2002 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    Money and oxygen are over-rated...
Date: 11/27/2002 9:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 51635    still nothing from the author?? whats the point of posting a debate if you arent going to defend your side of it???? ...
Date: 11/27/2002 9:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 33817    The best part is that she was complaining about a lack of debate in her last post: Date: 11/26/2002 9:28:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43339 Debates are two sided people, someone fight with me! lol.
Date: 11/27/2002 10:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 51635    LMAO and now she isn't even keeping an eye on this one... what nerve! ...
Date: 11/27/2002 10:17:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    You all are a bunch of capitalist pigs, exploiting the underclass and trampling on Mother Earth. Just so you can drive your SUV's. Shelly
Date: 11/27/2002 10:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    Hey, I love my Expedition....
Date: 11/27/2002 10:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 33817    I prefer to call it DEFILING mother earth.
Date: 11/27/2002 10:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    P1, you can laugh about defiling the Great Earth Mother based on a wacko satanic idea that you will soon be exploring universes in an artificial environment. Mother Earth must always be loved and cherished. St. Pete that is horrible. You are to blame for global warming. Shelly
Date: 11/27/2002 10:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    Hugo, your comment was rude and immature. Shelly
Date: 11/27/2002 10:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 51635    ok, so shelly must live in the woods with no electriciy, she must not burn any kind of fuel to keep warm or to run any appliances... I wonder how she runs her PC?? ....
Date: 11/27/2002 11:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 46565    I like your poem. I think it is true in most aspects. However, America is a big place and many people do not rule their life by money. But money does basically rule American government. For example, why does Bush want to go to war with Iraq. Is it because Saddam is a big evil man who hates freedom? Heck no! It is because he is a big evil man in control of a huge amount of oil. There are other crazy dictators in the world and other countries with worse human rights violations so why don't we go after all of them. Well because it isn't in our financial interest.
Date: 11/27/2002 11:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 61897    All I have to say is-SPEAK FOR YOURSELF!!! -Chi-Girl
Date: 11/27/2002 12:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 33817    How did this place ever survive without you, Hu-er-Shelly?
Date: 11/27/2002 1:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43339    Actually people, i went to sleep. I'm here to debate it now. I believe that America is truely about money. Why does our government do things how they do? Because it is best for us, or because it will help us economically?
Date: 11/27/2002 1:44:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43339    Also, i wasn't saying that money isn't important, we need it to live. Yet, i do feel that the love of money has greatly affected Americans.
Date: 11/27/2002 1:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 50435    I feel the situation is not so much about how money controls our lives but rather how the few with the majority of the money use it to control our lives. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making a few cool millions, or hundred million. But when you have to risk the safety of others and basically lie, manipulate, and cheat your way to the millions, it is no longer cool...
Date: 11/27/2002 2:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 23367    i couldnt have said it better myself america is like a representation of that flag.....its all a scam
Date: 11/27/2002 2:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 33817    Don't listen to Gallytuck, socialists don't understand capitalism. Hon, if you don't like the fact that this country runs on money, go somewhere where it doesn't. Oh yeah, those places don't exist. If you're starving, you don't have the energy to be altruistic.
Date: 11/27/2002 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 50435    LMAO@P1...
Date: 11/27/2002 2:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 53284    Interesting poem. I don't think that it applies to all Americans. Perhaps you have been watching too much MTV
Date: 11/27/2002 5:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 59407    America... a no cultured country... do i live there? NOPE! I live in England and proud I don't live there. Ick... Course I born in Japan
Date: 11/27/2002 7:10:00 PM  From Authorid: 53713    author 54907-no culture?america is made up of many cultures which makes it a great country.Shelly, I loved your poem! I agree with it to an extent. What I value most is my family, not money. ~crescentmoon~
Date: 11/27/2002 7:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 51635    A no culture country???? Have you ever been here 59407? We have pleanty of culture, if you can get past Disney land you'll see it, pure Americana... From the people parading dressed as pilgims on thanksgiving in Massichusits all the way over to the left cost where people settled after crossing the whole continent in a covered wagon... We may have a young contry when compared to England or Japan or china, or Italy, but we do have culture... if all you look at in a country is its government, you're missing most of the world... if all you look at in America is the government you're missing more then most of it... and what about all of the people from other countries who come to America to get a job or start a business, get BIG tax breaks and send the money they get back to the country they came from? I would say that they are more about moeny than Americans... And just where do you think England, Italy, Germany and Japan would be with out the money they have gotten from America? They would all still be sifting through rubble trying to rebuild themselvs... America is so much about money that we've let those debts go unpaid for all these decades... I wonder what that would come to with compounded intrest... Hmmm .....
Date: 11/27/2002 8:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    This poem is incredibly stupid I have seen better in my sophmore english class.
Date: 11/27/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    I suppose if that is the way you choose to view it...tell me, how many bedrooms does your environmentally sound cardboard box have?
Date: 11/27/2002 10:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    This poem is quite true. We are very much the consumer nation. It's just money, money, money!
Date: 11/27/2002 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    Big Tex, that was mean! How would you like it if someone said a piece of your writing sucked? I think she did a fine job...certainly better than some idiots I can think of where I live. And admit it, we are all about money and materialistic things.
Date: 11/28/2002 10:27:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 43339    Creepy, don't worry about it. Writing is subject to opinion. I, personally, don't frequently tell people their writing sucks, because it is an opinion, but he can express his how he likes.
Date: 11/28/2002 10:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 57225    thats all anyone is about..money
Date: 11/28/2002 3:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    Okay, this country is filled with greedy people who go after the dollar. So would people from any other country, if they had the same chance. I hope you are not putting down the country and its symbol as much as you are putting down the attitudes of many today. My answer to it is that money is to be a tool to gain what this country stands for, not something to be looked up to. I still keep the flag way up there, right under God. Peace. ~GypsyHawk~
Date: 11/28/2002 5:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 23367    OK- well i know i'm prolly gonna get totally beat with this but here it goes: America....it has its good points and its bad points as well. Our governemnt as most people would view it is stable and content and all that muck. Well, come on, why was AMERICA founded in the first place? Why do they call us the land of opportunity?! There is plenty of opportunity here, but lets face it people, money is a necessity. HOWEVER, Shelly in no way said she lived in a cardboard box. Just because we need it doesnt mena that that is all we're about. Its kind of hard to have faith and trust in our government when all these lies and scandals are being uncovered. Candidates were recently arrested for selling their votes and you say that that isnt what runs AMERICA?! well money does run america, its why we are a successful country, but whoever said that money had to run AMERICANS?...
Date: 11/28/2002 5:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 55967    Nirvanian, I think I agree with you (if I understand where you're coming from). My comment, above yours, says the same point, only a different way. Money is a necessary tool to have, but don't love it more than your own country. Right? ~GypsyHawk~
Date: 11/28/2002 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 23367    i dont know my feelings towards my country to tell the truth, if its run by all these filthy greedy people, it should no sooner be corrupt if it isnt already...
Date: 12/2/2002 9:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 33817    I'm actually all about 100 dollar bills, so let's change it to that.
