Well...ask yourself...are YOU about money?? Are those Americans on USM about money?? I'm not American, but have interacted with many Americans both online and in real life...and I would say that nope, America isn't about money, at least not those Americans I have had the pleasure of meeting...America IS the people...not the Institution...not Commerce...its you and every other American that truly makes your country. Peace, |

I read your poem with a very open mind. I am an American.....I can honestly say for the average working American it does not apply. Most Americans want to provide for their families unlike any other country is doing for their own families.... Corporate America, Wall Street and certain places in Government....yes, money is a big issue. I hate it too. |

Nope, thats not what we're all about so speak for yourself ... I wave my flag proudly, not for love of money, but for the man and women who braved the Atlantic to settle a "new world", for the people who stood up to a self righteous king for they're freedom, for the people who have defended our constitution and our way of life for more then 200 years, thats what America and Red, White and Blue are about...greed is an idividual's feeling and attitude not our country's ... |

Actually it is a consumer economy that helps drive an economy, creates a middle class and eliminates poverty. It is the taxes of the sales an income driven by consumer purchases that provide our semi-socialist states with the income to provide the socialist programs you probably adore. Hugo |

I like your poem. I think it is true in most aspects. However, America is a big place and many people do not rule their life by money. But money does basically rule American government. For example, why does Bush want to go to war with Iraq. Is it because Saddam is a big evil man who hates freedom? Heck no! It is because he is a big evil man in control of a huge amount of oil. There are other crazy dictators in the world and other countries with worse human rights violations so why don't we go after all of them. Well because it isn't in our financial interest. |

I feel the situation is not so much about how money controls our lives but rather how the few with the majority of the money use it to control our lives. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making a few cool millions, or hundred million. But when you have to risk the safety of others and basically lie, manipulate, and cheat your way to the millions, it is no longer cool... |

A no culture country???? Have you ever been here 59407? We have pleanty of culture, if you can get past Disney land you'll see it, pure Americana... From the people parading dressed as pilgims on thanksgiving in Massichusits all the way over to the left cost where people settled after crossing the whole continent in a covered wagon... We may have a young contry when compared to England or Japan or china, or Italy, but we do have culture... if all you look at in a country is its government, you're missing most of the world... if all you look at in America is the government you're missing more then most of it... and what about all of the people from other countries who come to America to get a job or start a business, get BIG tax breaks and send the money they get back to the country they came from? I would say that they are more about moeny than Americans... And just where do you think England, Italy, Germany and Japan would be with out the money they have gotten from America? They would all still be sifting through rubble trying to rebuild themselvs... America is so much about money that we've let those debts go unpaid for all these decades... I wonder what that would come to with compounded intrest... Hmmm ..... |

Okay, this country is filled with greedy people who go after the dollar. So would people from any other country, if they had the same chance. I hope you are not putting down the country and its symbol as much as you are putting down the attitudes of many today. My answer to it is that money is to be a tool to gain what this country stands for, not something to be looked up to. I still keep the flag way up there, right under God. Peace. ~GypsyHawk~ |

OK- well i know i'm prolly gonna get totally beat with this but here it goes:
America....it has its good points and its bad points as well. Our governemnt as most people would view it is stable and content and all that muck. Well, come on, why was AMERICA founded in the first place? Why do they call us the land of opportunity?! There is plenty of opportunity here, but lets face it people, money is a necessity. HOWEVER, Shelly in no way said she lived in a cardboard box. Just because we need it doesnt mena that that is all we're about. Its kind of hard to have faith and trust in our government when all these lies and scandals are being uncovered. Candidates were recently arrested for selling their votes and you say that that isnt what runs AMERICA?! well money does run america, its why we are a successful country, but whoever said that money had to run AMERICANS?... |
