I drive a red '84 Honda Prelude that needs a few repairs. The clutch is slipping, all four disc brakes started going out about a month ago, the power steering unit has failed, which ended up causing the fourth problem during the first week I had my license (I've had it since July). The faulty power steering caused me to turn into a wooden pylon at my cousin's apartment complex, damaging the right frontend and taking out the right headlight, due to severe understeer and, at the time, inexperience. This is one of those pop-up headlamps so not only do I have to fix the frontend and put in a new headlight, but I need to have the popup mechanism fixed. So I'm looking at all that, plus a new clutch and new brakes on all four wheels, not to mention the power steering unit. You'd probably tell me I should just get rid of the car huh? But I don't want to, I've grown attatched to my car, I guess you could call it a sleeper. It looks like it would be sluggish, but it outaccelerates my parents '97 Toyota Tercel and '01 Corolla, atleast when the clutch isn't slipping. It's pretty darn quick, especially since its so old. Must have been a formidable car in its heydey. And despite the problems, which I would say are really not too serious in the first place, its a really good car with excellent gas mileage, and it should last atleast another 20 years. Even with all these problems it still wants to go. My question to all of you is, how much do you think the repairs will cost?
