Cat problems

My cat seems to itch a lot more than usual around the ears. It iches so much it has little scabs in that area and I'm not sure whether it has ear mites, is having an allergic reaction to something, or is just stupid. And my dad won't take it to the vet, because he says, "It's a freakin' cat!" I'm 18; is there a way I can get this thing in to see a doctor? And what do you think is wrong with it?

Date: 11/27/2002 10:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 55330    my mommy always says pets should be treated just like humans.... hehe!! just take it yourself!! :P
Date: 11/27/2002 10:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    Your kitty might have ear mites which if untreated can cause the poor thing to go deaf. It's also contagious to other pets and is a common complaint. A vet can diagnose the problem for sure and the ear drops are pretty in -expensive. We pay about $2. to 5.00 for the drops.
Date: 11/27/2002 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 48129    Just as people have to clean their ears, cats (animals) have to have their ears cleaned too. My pupp does this too. Just take a flashlight, and check the ears for any kind of small bugs. And you can go to a walmart or kmart and buy some ear drops to clean the ears out with...its not expensive. Hope this helps =-)

Date: 11/27/2002 10:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51070    Thanx. I will do this next week; I'm going to be gone for the weekend, including tomorrow and friday, so I won't be able to get her taken in. My dad likes the cat, but he just doesn't think cats are all that important. I think differently, though; my cat is my baby and my light! I love my kitty!
Date: 11/27/2002 10:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    My cats are treated like babies. They're spoled rotten, as are all our animals. I hope you can get him to the vet, and get your dad to understand...Sorry about being so grouchy earlier LOL
Date: 11/27/2002 10:52:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51070    You didn't sound grouchy to me.
Date: 11/27/2002 10:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 26452    Oh good, lol I read my last reply and I thought I sounded a bit grouchy.
Date: 11/28/2002 12:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 8090    I think it's got ear mites. You can pick some shampoo up at WalMart to get rid of them...good luck!
Date: 11/28/2002 1:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 36901    I agree with Dumb Blonde. My cat has had ear mites several times. The medicine isn't expensive at all.
Date: 11/28/2002 6:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 19345    I have 4 cats and it sounds like either fleas or mites, look in the ear if it has little black dots looking things its mites, if they bite themselves alot and scratch most likely fleas. you can look through the fur and usually see some. They sell stuff at walmart to help with fleas and mites good luck
Date: 11/28/2002 10:51:00 AM  From Authorid: 50861    Prolly have allergies or an ear infection. You should take the poor thign to the vet.
Date: 11/28/2002 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 18516    It may be a cat but that cat has a soul and has feelings. I'd take the cat to the vet anyway and find someway to pay for it.
Date: 12/3/2002 8:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51070    My cat is going to the vet this week! Hooray!
