I just found out today that a friend of mine was in an accident over the weekend, and it's really made me think about things. She was going on a weekend trip with her mother, and two young sisters (She's 15) in her mother's boyfriend's car. They were on the highway, when they noticed that the air coming from the heating vents in the car was suddenly colder, and the car smelled of smoke. They pulled off onto the shoulder, and lifted the hood, and flames shot out. Her mother slammed the hood back down and the flames shot under the car. They were able to get the two little girls out of the car, and started running away, when she realized that the cat was still in the car. She ran back and got the cat, and then they stood on the side of the highway trying to wave down cars for half an hour. My friend and her mother both had cell phones, but they'd been left in the car in the furry to get the girls out. Neither of the girls had shoes on, and they had no money or food. The police put them in a hotel for the night, but they had to check out at 11, and the mother's boyfriend couldn't get there to help them until 6pm. Plus, they hadn't eaten since the day before, and had no money for food. This was in a small town in the middle of nowhere that they were not familiar with. At one point, the girls were very thirsty, and the water in town was not suitable for drinking, so my friend and her mother had to walk two miles to get bottled water (they must have gotten a little money somewhere, but not much), because they were the only ones with shoes. Anyways, they lost everything in the car, clothes, shoes, makeup (very important), cell phones. . . plus the car itself, which was their only mode of transportation. This is such a tragedy to occur just before Thanksgiving. Now, I talked this over with a few of my friends, and we decided that we needed to do something. As nine girls, some with jobs, and some without, each of us only giving what we could afford, we came up with over a hundred dollars to give to this family. I know that that was only possible by the grace of God. Girls that normally don't even have gas money gave up whatever they had, because of the need that they saw in this girl. I believe that to be a small miracle. When I suggested this idea to my friends, I figured we'd end up with like $30. The generosity of my friends in this situation just blows me away, and I realize that God's hand must have been in this. As I was making a few preperations for dinner tommorow, I thought of this friend, and how awful her Thanksgiving will be. It really made me think about how much I have, and how lucky I am. I just wanted to share this with all of you, and hope that you will be touched by this story as I am, and go on with your Thanksgiving traditions tomorrow with a renewed heart. I also would like to ask you to pray for this girl and her family. She's young, and mature for her age, but I know that this has been very hard on her, and, financially, it's very hard on her family. I'd like to ask that you pray for their financial situation as well, and that the money we're able to donate to them will be well spent, and be stretched to go as far as possible. Now, I'd like to thank you for reading, and thank you in advance for your prayers!
