I don't mind public school, speaking of thats where I met all of my friends from, and public school actually lets you socialize with others instead of being cramped up at home all the time. I know some one whose home schooling right now.. she is going for her GED.. She hasn't gotten it at all, and she's been hoem schooled for two or threee years.. Private school, I'm not sure about at all.. In my opinion, I like public school. But if the school is that bad maybe consider home schooling.. |

We chose the town that we live in partly because of the schools. My kids got great educations and are currently doing great at college. They (for the most part) had highly motivated teachers. I don't think that I could have provided the education that they received by home schooling them. So, If I were in your position, I would find a better school district and move there. |

In my case, I've only known what public school is like. I don't know anything about private or home schooling so I wouldn't know if they're better or worse. I always hated uniforms so that would be the main reason that I would not want to go to private schools. |

First Hi and welcome back :D and much as you may not like it, I think that home schooling is not the way to go. I'd say GET VERY involved, make the suggestions, changes, or be troublesome as much as is necessary to get the best you can for your kiddo!! Go be a volunteer in his class maybe... I know that is tough but anytime I have ever wanted anything at my kids school, I have to go there and be a real live person for them to take seriously what I have to say... btw I served papers on someone where the non custodial parent was suing the other parent to make her put the kids back in public school after one of the girls that "graduated" didn't have the proper credis and paperwork to qualify for even community college... but I do know each parent is different as to their abilty to homeschool... |

i am just really frustrated ... he does an excellent job academically speaking and is in 1st grade in an advanced reading class with 3rd graders ... but i think because he is so smart more demands are asked of him that his 7 yr old brain isnt able to achomplish and the teachers instead of working with him and his abilities are trying to conform him and i reallllllyyyyyy hate that . |

Public schools are better because if you shelter a child from the real world when they get out in it they wont know how to deal with it. |

Private schooling is the best in my opinion- my neice went to kindergarten in a private school, but because of the cost had to be placed into a public school. But I have seen what a private school did for her in just that one grade- she's in 3rd now and on the honor roll still. :) Private schools also have fewer students per teacher so each one gets more individual attention. |

As far as education goes, I'd think that private school would be best, since I think that they concentrate more on education then MY public school does at least. They are all about sports and stuff there. Private school can be expensive though, so I think that home school would probably be the next best thing :) |

Well, I've experienced all three-public, private and home-schooling. Public Schools- really depend on the school. It could be terrible like one of the high schools I attended or okay or great depending like I said on the school, teachers, etc. Private schools-ofcourse there is the problem with how expensive they are. It does motivate to make the best of it 'cause of the amount of money your parents have to pay and the education is better than public. It does make a difference. When I attended the "terrible" public high school, I got C's, D's & F's because I didn't even bother, no one took the school seriously(not the students or even teachers). The teachers weren't motivated to teach, it was frustrating! When I transfered to private high school I got all A's again. I also did the home-school thing when my mother could no longer "afford" private school. It was a waste of money, my money. I did the work at first but then didn't at all because there was no motivation. I wasn't required to complete certain things at certain times, I had no "schedule". Plus the thing that was the worst was not being around other people my age. It was so boring and I missed out on alot. My best-friend also did home-schooling and it also didn't work out because of the same reasons. I totally say "no" to home-schooling unless the person is a loner and doesn't mind it. Well, that's my two cents or 50 cents since it was sooo long-lol. -Chi-Girl |

Private schools are good, I go to one! But if you can't handle the tuition 'fees' then I would stick to Public school. I mean even though you don't like it as much, it's better off for him. Have you asked him if he liked the school? MAybe you can go on from there ... if he likes it then let him be, he'll adapt, i mean to say that a public school is probably better for him and you (right now) ... |

This is my oppinion(no offence to anyone): Public school is free but that is where most violence happens.Private school is more strict and every student wears a uniform(I got to a Catholic school) Private Schools make you pay a tuition every year so a child can be in that school. If you deont hvae the money to pay dont count on getting in. Home schooling is expensive even if the parent is teaching their child. If you hire someone Im sure it would cost a lot of money every year. But if the parent is teaching their child they will have to pay for textbooks which cost a lot of money. One of my text books at school costs over 50 dollars! Once again this is my oppinion and no offence to anyone! |

I'm not real happy either with our Public Schooling System, its gone down the drain as far as I'm concerned, unless your child is an exceptionally bright child...cause it seems to me they are the only ones that get all the attention...I give my grandaughter all the help I can but I my schooling was entirely different to how it is now, so needless to say I dont understand a lot of the new ways of learning things, some of my other grandkids went to Private Schools and have uni degrees, now when my little grandie goes to live with her daddy again he is going to send her to a Private School as he can afford it...I do agree that kids need schooling to interact with other kids for now and the future but if you can home school your child, I'd go for it, especially if you cannot afford Private....hugs Zema |

private schools all right, but they usually end up being, all girl or all boy. whats the fun in life if you can't talk to the opposite gender?why spend money to go to school when you could just go to a public one? and i have this big problem with school uniforms myself anyways...i hate em'...i like the idea of kids having their own dress style...though the good thing about private schooling is...ah,i can't think of anything because i've never been to one!:P but if its anything like college then i'd go for it...but i hate to think that dear old mom and step-dad would have to pay for school when i can have it for free:) |

Personally, I agree that sometimes children can be better educated at home. That only really works in elementry school though. I think its a little harder to make the transition into the world after high school, if you haven't spent at least 4 years in a public school. Even private schools seem a little 'sheltered'. Although that seems like a good thing, when you get into the real world... that sheltering may not seem like it was such a good thing after all. Of course thats only SOME private schools. Just my opinion! |

I think it really depends on who the student is. Some kids might not do too well socially and might want to be home-schooled. Some students may not want to be in a big environment but still want to be with peers so they might fit a private school. Also, at public schools, there are sports and more clubs that the kid can participate in. For the most part, except for special cases, academically, I believe public schools aren't very good. I mean, the one that I go to right now is really bad even with an IB program. But the one I went to a couple years ago was a really good public school but that's because it was the second best school district in Washington. It really depends WHICH school district it is also. If you go to a public school that is REALLY good, and they do exist (Mercer Island for example), obviously, you don't need to spend too much money going there. Private schools provide a good environment though I believe. |

we are supposed to get those vouchers in S.C. also . I really cant understand wat everyone here is getting happy for. private schools herehave the right to decline any student application. alot of private schools dont want alot of "other" kids at their schools. In fact other parents donate thousands of dollers to the schools to keep others out so their kids get to keep small classes. so in alot of cases money is not a factor. I went to private school it normally ran $400 a month a worked to get good grades in public school got the principle to write the private school a letter and i got in for no tuition. each school has disadvantages and advantages. No matter what people say private schools look better on college forms. If your kid doesn go to college and its a respected school his schooling will get him the better jobs. thats how it is here i hope you have better luck in fla |
