I have vaguely heard mention of the practice.I know that bodies and parts were used in a lot of magical/spiritual rituals in the middle ages....including the Hand of Glory.a Hand, dried and made in to a candle to ward off theifs..Peace |

i remember seeing something on tv about this, where someone would have to eat off of the dead persons chest. usually the son off the father. and one guy was really horrible and i think the son refused but i dont remember how it ended. i think someone ended up eating off of him. *dagon* |

I remember an episode of The Twilight Zone, Richard Thomas being the sin eater, I think. Long time back, I also remember my Grandpa mentioning this one time. I don't know the origin or where it came from. |

I saw the same show, but I also read the practice was based on fact, so was just interested in finding out more about the origin. RangerX |

nope, I've never heard of it. I don't doubt it actually happened though. People have done some stupid stuff to try and absolve themselves. It's like hey, I'll party and do everything and then when I croak someone can sprinkle magick pixie dust on me and POOF I'm floating in the clouds with my little harp singing about la-la land. Cracks me up. Interesting post, thanks for sharing. |

I think I've heard about this on one of the Discovery channels. I suppose for eons that the family of passed loved ones tried to gain salvation even after death for them whatever the belief. Good post. |

yeah, i've heard of it....sometimes they would take the blind and/or crippled, figuring "hey, you're screwed anyway, what's a little more?", and so that blind/crippled person would be taken to the funerals and be forced to eat the food so the dead person could get into heaven unburdened. I heard that in some areas they did it until about the 1950s or so.....i could look more up for ya, if ya wanted..... |
