some times yes it's true they don't work...it got soo bad at HMV they had to put a sign up saying something like "if your dvd that you bought doesn't work on your PS2 it's not thier fault and you cannot return it because of such a high volume of returns... because the DVD has no problems"(basically they were getting stuck with dvds what were new/but used just because someone's PS2 didn't like it and they couldn't return them to the company because nothing was technically wrong with them) personally i don't think a PS2 is a "dvd player" it's not it's main function, it's made as a gaming system that plays dvds... i know people who will snag a shirt or rip a button to get a discount on the item |

thats true on part of it but also some people never clean thier dvd or vcr. my brothers vcr wqont play half the tapes i got but my vcr will play everyone of them. same goes for my dvd as well as my puter. burnt cd's may not work on his and the music burnt cd's may or may not work in a cd player. but the part about people bringing in a movie wanting a refund or a freebie... that i have seen over and over. my friend will rent a dvd and copy it and even record it to a vcr tape. sometimes he will even carry the dvd back and say it hung up in a certain place. some people are just so cheap!! |

oh the ps2 has a codec or "zone" number that allows certain dvd's to be played in it. Japan has the 1st one and all japanese dvd's will play in a ps2. But amewrican and french are diffrent codecs and unless the machine has the proper codec it wont work. Some american video games if place in a Japanese player will play them as japansese rpg's instead of american due to the codec entry number. All it is is a way to make more money in the long run. Just wait till dvd goes to the micro cd's. There is gonna be a headache there. |

umm typically when this happens they should be given the SAME movie not a different one though right!?!? I agree some I'm sure are flat out lying others might actually have problems with their dvd/vhs player so the tape/dvd might not be at fault.......this reminds me last year we got dad pearl harbor on dvd......which is two dvd's we opened it and there was disk two...but disk one was no where to be found....lol had to take that back LOL...thankfully they didn't give us a hard time :D |

We always seem to get the movies that don't work. Or you can only watch part of it because the rest of it don't work. I would never take a movie back and say it didn't work if it didn't, but I am sure there are those that do. |

I have taken several Dvd's back to the rental store. But I never have asked for a refund. I DO tell them that I had problems with it, to help the next person. I don't know if it's my player or the disc, I let the store figure it out. But it is so frustrating to get into an interesting part of a movie and not be able to finish it. |

I've experienced the DVD problem before. My fiance and I watch our DVDs on his PS2 and sometimes we'll rent a movie that won't work on the system, but it'll work on his brothers DVD player. It's usually just a glitch onthe disc and we return it for the same movie. We don't expect a "free" rental. Just a working copy of the same movie. |

I used to work at a video rental place, and that did happen, but not too often. If it did occur, they were allowed to rent a working copy of the same movie, and could only get a different one if all of the other copies were out. Sometimes people would come in saying that they had already seen it, and in that case, I would check if it had been rented within the previous 3 hours, and only then would I let them exchange it. |

it just annoys me when people lie to get free stuff expecially at video stores when they barely make even now a days |
