An urban legend is a story about a certain person or place that is passed on as a true story. A superstition is a personal belief perople have about a certain thing. For example, bad luck with a black cat or walking under a ladder. And urban legend would be more like a story about someone or something that people keep telling as if it is true.  |

Urban legends are not necessarily based on truth. I'd consider a Tall Tale to be based somewhat on truth. Urban legends are what we call stories that are "Too Good To Be True" or "FOAF" stories (Cause they supposedly happen to a friend of a friend...never the person telling the story.) Although some UL's are based on fact or mirror reality.  |
