I dont know if I'm going to write more or not. This is just a product of boredom. Enjoy.

"Hello?" She said groggily into the phone as she pinched it between her chin and shoulder.
"Hello, Ruby," the voice on the other line said with a smile. She recognized that voice from a memory of long ago.
"Veign," Ruby said wistfully. "Its been a while."
"It has, hasn't it?" Veign said. "You've been alright, I trust?"
"Not as good as I had been when you were still around. And you?"
Ruby settled down at her desk, in her armchair that she'd always dreamed would come in handy at a time like this, and continued her studying, though not as intent as before the phone rang. At least she was more awake now.
"I've been fine, thank you. Found myself a job that suits me perfect."
"What, mercenary?" She said jokingly.
"In fact, yes."
She shook her head and gave a prophetic smirk. "At least you're happy with your profession. I'll be in school for another 7 years or so until I can get into mine."
"I see you're still bent on knowing everything about the world." he said.
Ruby stroked the mouthpiece idly, remembering how she used to love him...and as the conversation went on, she realized she'd forgotten why. Perhaps in her youth, she was so in love with love, she didn't care who she gave it to. High school naivete.
Ruby's eyes had glazed over, and her shoulders had drooped. Her head hung slightly over the map she had been marking. The charcoal pencil balanced daintily on her fingers. She stared with a hazy blindness at the map, and let the phone slide from her grip, his words from the past echoing through her mind.
"I don't know if I'll ever see you again, Ruby, but I'd like to."
He had tipped his hat. Her eyes now, as they had then, filled with tears. Again, she gripped charcoal pencil, again she clutched the hem of her skirt. She remembered how she wanted to tear up that map and leave with him, she realized now why she didn't.
"Here's lookin' at you, kid." he said tenderly. His words were distant, but still clear. It had been so long since he'd said that, but Ruby never forgot.
"Here's lookin' at you," she whispered in unison with her memory.
"What?" Veign said, breaking away from his "mission briefing" that Ruby did not hear a word of.
She blinked, casting away the tears that had formed a film over her eyeballs. "Nothing. Nothing at all."
"I don't believe you."
"I didn't say anything!"
"Funny, I could have sworn you'd quoted me from our last meeting." he said slyly. "Either that or Casablanca; and you hated that film." Across country, he knew the girl was smiling. "So will you join us?"
"Yes, of course, Veign," Ruby said, speaking before her brain had registered what he'd asked.
"Good. I'll see you in the morning."
