I love reading about serial killers and hope to one day study the professionally. So, every week or so I have decided to post a small informative post on famous serial killers. If you want any more information on them, let me know and I can message you a link. Enjoy...
Carroll Edward Cole.
Born 1953 with a genius IQ of 152 (as many serial killers are). But he did not do well at school. He was picked on bitterly for having a 'girls name' and believe it or not, his first victim was a fellow class mate that was the cruelest of them all. He drowned him on an outing one day and the drown was labelled accidental. Once Cole got away with it, he started to crave more. The killing made him feel in control, powerful and he wanted to feel that way again.
Like many serial killers his mother was brutal to him. He would be made to watch her cheating on her husband while he was at the Army and she would beat him ruthlessly to prevent him saying anything to his father. He would hide from her and have 'black outs' in which, once, he woke up with this puppy strangled next to him. He feared his mother and hated his mother and through killing other people, he was unconciously killing her.
He finally dropped out of school and started on petty theft and burgulary. (which many killers often begin as also) He was caught once and let out, only to be returned to his spiteful and cruel mother who gave him hell for being caught.
In 1961 he turned himself into police from thoughts of wanting to murder and abuse women. They committed him into a mental asylum and for 90 days he stayed. He was diagnosed as a sociopath, anti social and psychopathic but not insane, so he was released. (I know!!) He admitted nothing of killing the classmate and was too ashamed to speak of his mother. They knew nothing of these elements when letting him go.
A psychiatrist involved with him said it best if he stays where he was but he was overrulled. He wrote that Cole needed to kill women before being involved with them and that he feared them, especially romantically. But despite all this, he was released.
In 1963 he attempted to strangle a woman in Texas but failed and was recommitted to a psychiatric ward. He married a woman just as messed up as he on his release and the marriage was full of alcohol, fighting, beating and anger. He found out that she was servicing the other men in the area and furious he set the place afire. He was jailed for arson, released 2 years later. He drifted then without her and attacked an 11 year old girl. He was caught and jailed for a further 10 years.
Once released he attempted to stangle two more women and was put in a ward again. They gave up any hope in helping him and he was released once more and told to go back home. He had given up all hope as he had confessed several times now and they kept releasing him. They didnt know how to cure him so he was beyond caring now. He was the most dangerous he had ever been.
He got on welfare, didnt go home, but started schooling as a helping hand at a hospital in California. By 1971 he had killed his first 2 victims. Burying them in nearby hills, he was uncaught and on the prowl regularly for more women to punish. By 1972 he had killed 4.
He moved to Las Vegas with another girlfriend in 1973. In 1975 he had left his girlfriend and was working on oil rigs. A lady offered him herself and he commented on the wedding ring on her finger. She laughed it off and he killed her. When she was found days later... he left town.
By 1977 he was not just strangling anymore but mutilating and even eating some of his victims. Every killing got more and more bizarre and he felt more and more ashamed of himself but unable to stop.. he continued his rampage. Thinking of his mother in the back of his mind, he continued to kill.
By 1979 he killed his long time girlfriend and two other ladies from bars. They were both completely intoxicated and were decided to have been poisoned by alcohol rather than strangled. More he got away with. He remarried and was found and jailed for alcholism in 1980. But released again shortly later.
Later in 1980 he was interviewed again for a ladies death and confessed to it all. In 1982 he was plotting escape but in 1984 he got a letter telling him his mother died. He changed his mind and decided to plead guilty. He preferred to just die. He was found guilty and sentenced to death.
In 1985 he was put to lethal injection for a total of 16 deaths. He was one of many of the most brutal serial killers of the 20th century.
