An important computer question!! ~Lucy Ricardo~

Hello everyone!

I have a problem on my hands with my computer, and hope there is someone here who can help me out!

I wont get into alot of detail, but I do alot of writting on my Wordpad, and I save everything on floppy disks. Two nights ago, I stuck my disk in, and it said "The disk in drive A is not formatted". I did a little research (I really couldnt find any helpful sites), and it said that to format a disk, I have to erase everything on it??? I hope that's not really the case because I have some very important stuff saved. Is there a way I can format the disk without erasing everything?? Or any way to at least save everything that I typed up?

(Also *just incase it might help* the disk was working fine one minute, and the next it wasn't. I was typing something, took out the disk *because I thought I was finished*, then put it back in to add something, and it gave me that "Not formatted" thing.)

Love, Lucy Ricardo

Date: 1/26/2003 8:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 54570    ok no one make sure that you havent locked the disk. There is a notch or hole that should be unlocked. also make sure you have th right disk as well and that you have the right side up as well. Also it might still be in your computer in a file or on the desktop even. When I do work I save it not only on a diskette but also in my documents as well. That way even if i loose the disk or worse yet it reformats it I havent really lost it.

Date: 1/26/2003 8:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 54570    on the disk back you should see a padlock symbol. If you see the hole on the padlock symbol then the diskette is unlocked. if the hole is blocked then the diskette is locked.

Date: 1/26/2003 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 54570    there is no way to format a disk with out destroying the information inside of it. You might can take the disk to a computer shop and have them to retrieve the info off it. Make sure though you give them all the info on what type of computer and all.
