I searched the world and sought to find A treasure rare, one of a kind, I searched in caverns, dark and bleak, Thinking to find a thing unique. Something to match this love of mine And offer as a valentine. I searched afar, the mountains high, The prairies wide, the deserts dry. I sailed the ocean and the sea . . . Found not one thing to equal thee. Scarce chocolates, nor valued wine Could ever match this love of mine. Earth's fairest gem, a rainbow's hue, A forest glen . . . mere hints of you No flower, sucking nature's breast, Would dare compare to heaven's best. These precious things cannot portray The message my heart would convey. Alas! I'm left with humble rhyme To proffer as my valentine.
