tomevans, what a wonderful idea and I hope they hear it!!! Karen Gail Porter was my SisANGELwiththesamemiddlename, and I loved her dearly. You have NO idea how much strength she had ... I could FEEL it with each email and each telephone conversation she and I had. She was the "rock" of her family during her illness, her real-life family and her USM family... I miss her so much I havent been on USM too much lately because I get so sad when I do come here and see she isnt here Your post had a "pick-me-up" in it for me tonight because you have such an excellant suggestion!!! I love it! Thank you so much for suggesting it and the possibilities here are endless... the Karen Gail Porter Award of LOVE, the Karen Gail Porter Award of Poetry, the Karen Gail Porter Debate Award, the Karen Gail Porter UNDERSTANDING award, and the Karen Gail Porter STRENGTH and VALOR award! Thanks for letting me get a few emotions out tonight talking about her... |

Tom, I really do think that would be a great thing. A scholarship award/fund. Karen posted about going to college and a scholarship fund would keep her memory alive. |

Karen was the one who bolstered my creativity when I was new here and knew no one. Here were my lonely little poems, with no comments and no appreciation until Karen decided to comment...and bring Agent Smith along for the ride. I pride myself on being a "USM poet" now and I have more than 300 poems here on USM...all which became from the creative nourishment that I found here and the welcome that it got from sweet Thunderhead. What better thing is there to do than to bolster and foster one another's creativity? That is what she did for me. That is what I try to do for others. |

HI TOMEVANS , nice to meet you. you have a great idea here. Karen or should i say Thunderhead as i knew her by was in fact the one to set the bar higher than anyone i have ever known. she lived life for what it was and as you so nicely phrased it never used the woe is me card. she is someone who showed me the way to live and the way to leave a memory to be proud of . in loving memory i found a safe place to keep her , all i ever have to do is search my heart and mind and she will never be more than a loving thought away. thank you tomevans. wooden nickel |

Hello Tom Evans. I liked Thunderhead for so many reasons. I think your idea is a good one. Besides being a kind, loving and patient person, Karen was very learned and a "wicked good" writer. She could always hold my attention and that's kinda hard to do..lol..Anyway, I think an award like that would be great. Write on.... |

This post really did have alot of wonderful meaning put into it, and I hope that the award becomes a reality and that it is given to those who know the true meaning of love, compassion, and strength as Karen did and still does. Writing here we share our most inner thoughts, I to love usm for this, great one!! })i({ Luvz |

What a beautiful way to keep Karens spirit always with us here. It could be a quarterly award given to a USMer. The award could be given by Ginger or Radman. There are so many directions this could take as suggested by Gail. Maybe the USM committee could take this into consideration as a way to boost morale around the USM world.... |

So, it would be a monetary (I hope that's the right word!) award?...I like the idea of an award in Karen's name, but who would fund this? Would it come from donations? The USM Fund? My original thought when I saw this post, was an award like the ones on profiles... |

this is an awesome idea, and I think there are plenty of USMers here that feel the same exact way as you do about USM and Karen, a heroine (that's right, isn't it? female hero, not the white horse? LOL) ANYhow, bravo for voicing this idea! |

How about raising money for starting USM Ghost Hunting chapters. There could be one for every state. I already know of 4 haunted locations here in Washington State. The funds could help with transportation, equipment and Lodging if neccesarry. |

...also besides the four locations I mentiond: The Burnley Art School on Seattle's Capitol Hill, and The Harvard Exit Theatre also on Capitol Hill. Then there is the Historical Museum located in Kent which has recently gained some attention for it's alleged paranormal activities. An a little further distant is Manresa Castle in Port Townshend, which experiences many spooking things. Sooooo, what think you all? |
