Why stop there? throw them some bologne, ham and cheese, so they can make a sandwich. But you gotta remember, a sandwich just isn't a sandwich without the tangy zip of miracle whip! |

hmm what's your idea? bread for bombs? isn't that what we did with Iraq in the first place? Now what has become of that food? It's used as political leverage in Iraq, follow or starve. Read a newspaper |

While I don't know if your suggestion would actually work, I commend you for trying to think of a better solution then war. As for the rest of you...I am very disappointed. Someone tries to think of a way to make the world better and what do you people do? Laugh at them? Insult them? |

sadaam hussein and osama bin laden are crazy..i don't think they care if we're a leading economic power or not. they despise us and they've already proved that they're willing to die to see us go down. but i do agree w/ you that no one should have weapons of mass destruction, if no one had them..no one would need them. |

But are the civilians crazy? Do they want to go to war and see their familes die? No. and those who do feel war is justafied actaully do have their reasons, evin if they are misguided reqasons. Throwing threats arround is not a way to make them not want to fight. Serving the people will get them to actaully like and not hate us. When Jesus said "love thine enemy" I dont think he ment it just to be used when convenient. He meant it and meant it whole heartidly. |

Rat You have a beautiful idea but we must face it..As long as there are different people, different nations, all with different ideas then there will always be fighting and wars going on. It is obvious that God's way is not the way of the ruling governments and it never was..The O.T. and the N.T. are full of stories showing that people tend to think that their ways are better. It seems to me that most of the time, people would rather bully (in a sly way) and show off their power to rule rather than to come to peaceful solutions. |

i think the idea of it is great, but its too late for all of that at this point. even if there was all of a sudden a like universal law put to order saying that all weapons of mass destruction had to be destroyed, there'd still be a few selected countries who would feel the need to hide some, because thats how the world works. sad but true. |

Although I sense the sincerity in your words, I feel your assumptions are misguided. The countries that despise us do so not because we can send them back to the Stone Age, but because we are Americans. For many of these people, America is the Great Satan...period. If we were to disarm, it would not be perceived as a gesture of peace, but as an indication of weakness. In the views of many, one never compromises with an enemy--one waits until the enemy is weak and then strikes to destroy. This also explains why so many of the countries that receive so much of our foreign aid do not support us in other matters; they'll take our handouts but have no intention of ever changing their opinions about us. Many of our economic policies are designed to benefit our country, not only other nations. If we exercised our economic muscle, the lives of many people would not be affected: only the lives of their leaders. We have tried to encourage the Iraqi people to revolt against Saddam for years; we are currently engaged in distributing literature to outlying villages in an effort to have them rise up against their dictator. And how devoted is he to his compatriots? During the Gulf War, he moved civilians around military targets, knowing we were too "weak" to kill the innocent. It is an unfortunate lesson of history that no meaningful peace has ever been achieved apart from the bloodshed and subjugation of the enemy. As a nation, we are learning to leave dictators alone, unless they pose a threat toward our citizens. People have the right to protest any war, but twelve years is long enough to know if someone is willing to comply with the wishes of the U.N. Saddam isn't. |

gosh....some people. i'm not naming any names, but some people. do you know why we all believe we are destined to war forever?? because we are told so, and of course we MUST believe everything the media attempts to force-feed us through a mindless talking box. i agree with 57225 that it would be much better if no one had nuclear powers, but please. there are other ways to deal with these issues and if anyone watched the state of the union address our president straight out said that people that were of suspicious nature, or who he thought had done us wrong were "taken care of", in not so many words....anyway, we were not created to kill each other. i may not be religious in the "traditional" sense of the word, but i believe in love and compassion for our fellow man...does that make me a hippie? sure, label me whatever you want, but it's not going to change my point of view. i agree that suddam in crazy....but have you ever considered what our president is doing?? but no, we are the great and wonderful united states and everything we do must be in self-defense...gosh. i'm i the only one that sees that this whole war is over oil?? yes, we want retribution for the lives that were lost on 9/11, but what about all the iraqi lives that have been lost?? well of course, those are forgotten. world peace is sadly a pathetic joke...but at least some neutrality would be nice. "why kill a man for what [your] father's done. what [your] father's done, doesn't mean anything, [you're] not him" (slightly altered lyrics, but they still fit...think about our president, is father. enough said.) thank you for listening and letting me speak my mind. peace love and tangerines |

Thanks for your reply, Rat Town. I am not suggesting that we live our lives in fear of vague Boogey Men. I am suggesting that some people exude evil and should be monitored closely to guarantee their compliance with civilized law. If we wanted oil, there are less costly ways of obtaining it than going to Iraq. If we had a problem with dictators, we could raid a poverty-ridden island ninety miles south of Florida; Castro has been in power for half a century. Saddam has a documented history of cruelty toward anyone who is suspected of conspiring against him. His hatred of the United States is evidenced by his support of suicide bombers and Al-Qaida. He is the schoolyard bully and needs to be confronted. I am convinced there will not be a war against Iraq if Saddam would go into exile. I do not believe he will voluntarily leave. If there is a war, it will be because of the arrogance of Saddam, not the petty desires for vengeance or oil by President Bush. |
