Can Animals Be "EVIL"? or "BAD"?

I am serious here....in order to be "evil", there must be a conscience effort to choose to do harm to another creature. Now, when a meat-eater kills, it does not kill for "sport". It kills to eat. (The only possible exception, is like a cat, catching & re-catching a mouse. But that is not "cruel", he is honing his hunting skills. And cats are never truly "domesticated", the way a dog is. They are preditors, always...) When a male lion takes over a pride, he will kill all the cubs from the other male leader, therefore, ensuring his seed will survive. And, technically, that would mean the "strongest" seed will carry on in the pride. That is not "evil". That is survival & ensuring the continuation of the pride.

Animals are motivated by instinct. And affection for others. I have no doubt animals feel "love", and "compassion", in addition to survival skills. We saw an example when a silverback gorilla was so gentle and protective of a small child who fell into his area in a London Zoo. The Giant Ape, even caressed the boy, till he could be saved.

Binta-A female chimp, at the Brookfield Zoo, near Chicago, with her own baby on her back-did the same thing, even protecting the child from other apes.

Now, if animals can be compassionate, loving, nuturing, and "good", can they be "bad"?

I say "NO"......and I'll tell you why. Mankind created the concept of "evil", and "being bad". To be "evil", you must show "malice"...and I do not believe animals are capable of being malicious.

So, what do you all think?

Date: 2/14/2003 9:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Yes I do beleive that animals can become evil or bad. Perhaps not of themselves but there are many that know how to enter into the animal and cause havoc from there. Many dont beleive that this can happen or does happen, but it does.
Date: 2/14/2003 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 56369    Yeah Firstborn has summed up what I have been taught. I love cats, but they are easy targets, well thats what my mum told me! I think that its hard to tell. Pets naturally warm to there owners. But yet you can get Dogs that bite and almost Kill humans. Im not really sure. I think its based on primative instinct, so I say no, animals are usually good natured unless provoked otherwise.
Date: 2/14/2003 9:45:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    my own daughter was attacked by a family dog. My sister's doberman attacked her, and caused serious damage to her face. Thank goodness for plastic surgery! The dog was well loved, and well treated. She knew the whole family, and I would have trusted her with my children anytime. HOWEVER- after she was put down, it was discovered she was ill. Her brain had swelled in her skull cavity, causing pressue. Do I think Dutchess (her name) was evil? Or possesed? No, I think she was sick......and a victim too. As was my poor daugher (who has grown up to be a real beauty)
Date: 2/14/2003 10:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I've noticed that dog that turn on a person are usually, dobermens, rots and pitbulls. I dont trust those dogs for a mintue, my uncle had one for years and years, then one day for no reason it tried to attack him. Went like this for about a week, couldnt get close to the dog to feed it, it also had to be put down. Sickness of mind can make a dog or any animal attack. They are prone to many things that happen to humans as far as that goes. However you know as well as I do, or at least I would think so, that people with the know how can direct their spirits into that of an animal. Even the indians know this.

Date: 2/15/2003 6:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 57225    yeah im sure animals can be evil
Date: 2/15/2003 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 47218    no. You need morality in order for the concepts of "good" and "evil" to be possible concepts. Animals don't have morals. They live by instinct.
Date: 2/16/2003 8:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 51070    Yes, animals can be evil. Look at my brother's cat! It pees on all my things! Grrrr!!! That thing has a vendetta against me or something; it loves destroying my things and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why!
Date: 2/17/2003 5:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    *gets dizzy* ALL THE QUOTATIONS
Date: 2/21/2003 2:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 16069    My cats pretty evil. She constantly scratches and bites us. I can be petting her and out of nowhere she attacks me. I love her anyways.
Date: 2/21/2003 3:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 16069    FirstBorn, Im scared of big dogs. I had too many of them try and attack me and its scary.
