It's a funny thing these days. While driving around the metropolitan area I have come to notice that there are so many apartment complexes with unbelievable move in offers. Some as low as $1.00, as well as the "First Month's Rent Free" banners.
It sorta reminds me of the recent Auto industry dilemma. Not only are they trying to sell this year's model, there are more than plenty "Tent Sales" going on. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that there is a growing population of cars that are returned at the end of a "Lease" program, or suffice to say, Rentals and Fleet programs.
Hence the glut and the willingness to get anyone pre-approved with a loan. And of course, if you are in the position financially, you can walk or drive away with a great deal. (Do your homework though.... :) )
I guess the reason I am writing this is has to do with the recent letter I got on my apartment door the other day.
The manager is asking if there is anything she can do to keep me at the place I have lived in for the past 3 years.
It's nothing personal...for the most part anyway. I, like many others these days, have opted to take advantage of the low mortgage rates and buy a place of my own. Hence the glut of empty apartments.
I put in my 30 day notice last week, becuase my Loan officer informed me that all is well and the rest is mere formality. I should move into my condo at the end of the month.
So long to paying rent. Hello to equity and the ability to recieve more from next years tax return.
And I find it funny that prior to the last few years, apartment complexes never thought twice about raising the rent, as well as increasing the security deposit and taking their sweet time about returning the water service when they shut it off without warning 3 times this past year alone. Without any warning, or apology I might add. I wrote a post about bathing in the complex jacuzzi awhile back...... it could happen to you!
Then there was the time when I got a note from the office, stating that I was randomly chosen to have my unit inspected. I went to the office and told them to "RANDOMLY" choose another unit. I pay my rent on time and desire to have my privacy respected.
So as it stands now, I have not attempted to reply to the managers recent letter. Why bother? There is nothing that will change my mind.
Carpet Cleaned for Free? Fresh paint job?
Where were you last year, or the year prior? You did manage to raise the rent though.
So long!
