A noted neurologist from Philadelphia had gone to bed early after an emotionally draining day.
Suddenly he was awakened by a loud knock on the door.
Wrapping himself in a robe, he found a little girl, dressed shabbily and very upset.
"My mother's very sick," she said.
"Can you come with me?"
The night was bitter cold and snow was falling, but the doctor dressed and followed the little lass.
He found her mother desperately ill with pneumonia.
He administered medical care, the complimented the woman on her daughter's polite manner and persistence.
The woman's response shocked him.
"My daughter died a month ago," she said.
"Her shoes and coat are in the closet over there."
In the closet the doctor found the same shabby coat the girl had worn.
It was warm and dry and could not have been used that night.
Had the angels summoned the doctor by appearing as the ill woman's daughter?
Certainly some unexplainable power was at work.
