WAR-What Can We Do-More Than You Think........! (LSG)

today, my sister took her lunch hour & met me for lunch. During lunch we disussed what is going on with te impending military action.

BTW-my cousin, the SLC sheriff I was planning on having a discussion with about Elizabeth Smart, he has been "called-up", and is now back with his unit. :(:(

The good news is: he is Air Force, an (F7, I believe), and will probably be stateside, since he is a M.P., or something. Whatever the highest non-Officer rating is. (I am pretty clueless about titles in the Air Force).

Anyway- here is what we discussed.

1) Know your neighbors-is it so important right now, who's dog barks at night, and who's kid drives too fast down the street? Even if you HATE their glow-in-the-dark plastic garden Trolls, we need to know each other, and put the petty stuff behind us. Neighbor you don't know? Introduce yourself. Respect their privacy, but let them know, who YOU are too.

2)know an elderly person, or veteran? Right now, impending war is very scary for them. Maybe give a call on the phone, just to say "hi". If they need to talk, listen. I mean, what's it going to kill you, to let the elderly Mother who lost her "baby" in combate reminice for an afternoon? Seriously? Or an elderly person, who feels "vulnerable" right now, let them know, they are NOT alone.

3)Hug your pet(s). Feel their simple love. How bad can a world be, when your cat, sits in your lap, purring like a motorboat?

4)If you find yourself getting depressed, TURN OFF THE T.V!!! TURN OFF THE RADIO!!! You have permission, I swear!

5) watch your diet & exorcise....also to let off steam, I play "Red Alert2". The computer game. Let's me Nuke Iraq & Iran everynight. It's like playing "Risk", and you have to use your brain, to manuver your troops.

6)eat dessert first a few times

Well, those are a few, for a start. Anyone else have ideas?

Oh, yeah, WRITE TO A SOLDIER!!!!!

Date: 3/18/2003 5:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    I play Americas Army playing nothing like "elimanating" some rag head terrorists. Risk is awesome too. GET EXERCISE!!!! That is soo important and it makes you feel sexy lol ;)
Date: 3/18/2003 5:06:00 PM  ( Chatmin-FA )   Wow.. nice ideas LSG!
Date: 3/18/2003 5:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 61893    Well, I know my neighbor pretty well and I check on him often. Oh boy, and I need to do some exercising that is for sure..lol Thanks LSG, that is some great advice!
Date: 3/18/2003 5:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Thanks guys! LOL.I have the offical "ARMY" game too. I haven't played it yet.:P Also, about a year ago, I wrote to the National Muslim something-or-other, an asked questions of their clergy. They sent me information. They were also very nice, and pleased that I asked. They knew I had NO intention on converting, but I wanted information, on the "offical" Muslim position on War, as taught in the Koran. They were very helpful.....it helped me too. It showed me there is "another"-type of Muslim. I did it a much for myself, as anything else.
Date: 3/18/2003 5:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    People that think muslims are hostile mean people are 100% fools. The terrorist who claim there muslim are the same as the ministers that sell christianity on TV.
Date: 3/18/2003 5:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim. My idea of exercise is a good brisk sit....then a chocolate bar to take the edge off....
Date: 3/18/2003 5:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    Yah screw exersice lets all sit down and gain some healthy calories.
Date: 3/18/2003 6:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 27270    This all sounds entirely too healthy to me! I was thinking more along the lines of downing a few beers and eating some really greasy cheap mexican food, like Taco Cabana, to drown my sorrows, lol! But really, I have already committed to "tuning out" of the news if we go to war after the first 1-3 days. That will be about all I can stand, but enough to let me know what's going on in the beginning. I'm already nervous. Don't get me wrong, I support it 100%, but no one said it was going to be easy. I figure if things get bad my time is best spent w/ my little girl and my family rather than biting off my nails in front of the t.v. Now if I could just get transfered out of my high rise office building....
Date: 3/18/2003 6:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 16538    You've bought your duct tape and plastic cover right?
Date: 3/18/2003 6:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    LSG, your cousin would be a Chief Master Sergeant, Securiity Specialist. I was a Security Specialist during my time in the Air Force/ Air Guard. Not to be a doomsayer, but most of my old unit has rotated through the Gulf region in the past year. Security Specialist are in high demand right now, both stateside and overseas.
Date: 3/18/2003 6:21:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    thank you-Warrior Spirit. I am so proud of my cousin! Thank you for explaining to me. He is a good man & even IF he goes overseas, (which he probably will), he was born & raised in West Virginia. (real mountain-people). Why do I mention it? He is from real tough stock. And, very good at survival. He is so proud of his country. If all our soldier/warriors will be like him, they will do fine, I am sure. I hate to sound naive, but I trust he will do well. Meanwhile, I will write to his wife & kids & keep them company, as best as I can. Our family is very close. I swear, I a going through the Elizabeth Kubler-Ross steps of grieving right now. I finally hit "acceptance". But I am still scared as heck. I am more afraid of Korea, or China sneaking in our back door, you know what I mean?
