Question About The Bible- Where Did WATER Come From? It's Not mentioned in Genesis!

actually-let me correct my statement. Today, I went to the local libray, to meet with a group & a professor from USF. We were dicussing Ghost stories from th 16th century writings, till now. The professor, who IS a paranormal expert, was sharing a few interesting facts, and one concerned the myths about Water & it's mysteries. (And the ancient gods like Posideon, who was a very moody god).

Now-the professor brought up a VERY interesting theological question-

We all know how Genesis starts.....but "God moved his hand accross the Waters....". Whow!

Wait! IT DOES NOT SAY GOD CREATED THE WATERS! It says he seperated Heaven & Earth. It says He (God) seperated Day Night...If he movd His hand(s) across the waters, than the waters were ALREADY there, right?

SO: did God create the Earth from something that ALREADY existed?

OR

Did some authors forget to meantion this small detail?

OR

Does a DIFFERENT diety, like the Christian Satan, actually own/rule, the waters?

That would be a very, very tough problem. After all, we cannot survive without water. Our own bodies are 70% saline solution.

This debate is not to attack the Bible at all. It is a mystery, how could God, "move his hand(s) across the Waters", without creating it first, unless it was already there?

What are you thoughts? Maybe there really IS a different "god of this Earth"?

Date: 3/19/2003 9:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Good point-Metal Princess-I rely do mean this as a theological question....it is an funny fact.
Date: 3/19/2003 9:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Or do the authors of the Bible (Moses wrote Genesis) simply assume, we believe God created water?...by why would he (Moses), not mention it? This is an interesting question!
Date: 3/19/2003 9:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 59418    oh right, ok. I Really don't know much about this kind of thing. I have never read through the bible, or done research of any kind on the topic. I think god created the earth, and water...But it is possible that some other immortal being created water i guess. Good post :) metal princess
Date: 3/19/2003 9:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    thank you-I was thinking about this today (minor distraction from the war).
Date: 3/19/2003 9:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 51531    Hmm... I don't think there is a different god of this Earth at all. I also don't think that while creating this world, Satan would be the ruler of the waters. Satan had not yet went against God until after the world was created. I know that the Bible only tells us what we need to know. I'd think that God did create the Earth from matter that already existed however.
Date: 3/19/2003 9:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Gen 1:1-2 In the beginning God 'created' the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep. Notice the verse says God created..Created-not formed from any pre-existing materials, but made out of nothing. There was NOTHING in existence..God then moved upon the face of the waters. God created then He continued brooding over it, as a fowl does, when hatching eggs, by working on the dead and disarranged elements, combined, arranged them to be suitable for the plan which He already had in mind..In Ex 20:11 it says "For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day." So Moses did say God created the waters and all things. In Ps 95:5 David says, The sea is His and He made it and His hands formed the dry land and in Pr 8:29 it says "When He gave to the sea His decree that the waters should not pass His commandment; when He appointed the foundations of the earth"..
Date: 3/19/2003 9:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 53055    Wow...good point. It may serve as evidence that there has been more than on kind of god...kewl post. :)
Date: 3/19/2003 10:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    Yeah, what Rusure said. :)
Date: 3/19/2003 10:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 19092    Water is a combination of two basic elements, hydrogen and oxygen. The heavens are full of both. God created the heavens and the earth, they both contain the basic elements which combined to make "water" or H2O...it's not rocket science...
Date: 3/19/2003 10:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Yep rusure said it.
Date: 3/19/2003 10:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    thank you, you guys! I was mulling over this today like I said, I minor distraction from the war.) Both RuSure & KC make excellent points! Thank you for explaining this.....:):):)
Date: 3/19/2003 10:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    makes better sense now-especially after the professor said "No one has been able to explain....", well, that was all the challange I needed, to try to figure it out. ;)
Date: 3/19/2003 10:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    Besides, after muling over it, I thought "Aha!, I'll ask at USM, so if anyoe else knows.....";)
Date: 3/19/2003 10:40:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    *typo's* time for a new keyboard
Date: 3/19/2003 10:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Hi ya Deb..Good to see ya here. :) I missed ya..LSG..I had a keyboard that had been used so much that the keys would stick and I had sooo many typos. I eventualy had to get buy a new one..Problem with that is, a week or so after I got that one, my grandson found his way to my computer room and somehow he caused it to lock up in a toggle key mode, whatever that means. :) No one could get it to ever work again. I now have everything new and it is so very nice. I had already been having trouble with my old computer. As I told my son, It was being so nasty that I was ready to give it a bathe in a tub of water. :)
Date: 3/19/2003 11:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    well....truth be told, I drank a cup of cappichino near mine & it spilled. (after all the nagging at my son about "no food, or drinks near the computer, yet) ;)
Date: 3/19/2003 11:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Hehehe I think my old one made a special folder just to horde the snack food crumbs. ;)
Date: 3/19/2003 11:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15070    LOL........no wonder it "rebelled"! I wanted "Taco Bell"! (or at least a toll-house cookie!) :)
Date: 3/20/2003 1:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 53961    1 IN the beginning God• created• the heaven• and the earth. "The heaven and earth" encompasses all that is here, including water. From there He breaks it down. First He created those two where as to put everything needed.
Date: 3/20/2003 1:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 55967    It has been said well here, but I want to add two more things. The order of creation does compliment science in that the waters of the deep were here before land. Also, no matter what one believes, I would definitely say the the third possiblility (about satan or some such ruling the waters) is not a possibility. Water is life-giving, and is a symbol of life. It is used a lot in the Bible, esp. in the NT, as such, and as baptism. ~GypsyHawk~
Date: 3/20/2003 6:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 54111    Everything is made clear by Rusure.
Date: 3/20/2003 8:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 54532    Um its not really a religious thing. Religion and science do not mix. Co2+O2 equals h20
Date: 3/20/2003 8:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 17204    nice point!
Date: 3/20/2003 10:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 53500    Side note, Satan is not a "different diety." He's an angel, not a god.
Date: 3/20/2003 6:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 58030    hmm, maybe the fact was sort of left out (not really according to Rusure's reply but... overlooked would be a better term) in all the translating,
Date: 3/20/2003 6:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 58030    hmm, maybe the fact was sort of left out (not really according to Rusure's reply but... overlooked would be a better term) in all the translating... personally my thoughts are that the bible was created from a larger document, on stone, but was destroyed, (i don't know where that came from i like halfway lost control of my fingers there that was weird)
Date: 3/20/2003 6:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    im baffled, i think my head just imploded lol

JESTR: late happy birthday.

Date: 3/22/2003 6:34:00 AM  From Authorid: 52140    From my knowledge of the theory that something exploded and the planets just happened, it says that the earth was consumed by fire until it later cooled and then water popped up and other stuff did too. Well anyway, When GOD created the heavens and the earth, He formed it with water. I think it was kinda a mist and water until God's spirit moved over it and gave it form. God used water to create the earth... does that make sense. MSG me if it doesn'
Date: 3/22/2003 6:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 52140    Im 16 today (3/22)!! I don't like being 16 tho cuz makes me feel older, I wanna go back to being 15. Jestr, do you feel old?

(just thought of something really funny but it would offend a LOT of people) lol
