Even if you're not ripping out chunks, it could be a mild form of that disorder. I forget what it's called. You could see a doctor about it, there might be meds that help you stop, or tricks or something. Erin- |

...the only two things that I can think of are to either cut off all your hair or remove your fingers. However, neither of these solutions seems to be practical. Subconcious habits are rarely easy to rid ones self of. At least you don't have a habit of picking your nose in public. |

maybe it's like biting your nails..i don't notice it when i'm doing that, really - - but when someone tells me i am..i start to notice - for instance, if you could get a friend that is around you alot to tell you when she notices that you're messing with your hair - you might start to notice after a while and then you could stop it yourself --i know just what ya mean..i bite my nails down to the nub and never even think about what i'm doign 8-) |

I can't help but think of an old song right now as I contemplate your dilemma. It is, in no way, my recommendation. It's simply a comical approach to your situation. "Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette. Smoke, smoke, smoke it if you smoke yourself to death. Tell Saint Peter at the Golden Gate that he's gonna have to wait. I've gotta have another cigarette." LOL! |

I must add this warning when considering an alternative. "SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease, emphasema and may complicate pregnancy." I'm not pregnant so I'm not worried. LOL! |

Hi Danielle :) I used to do the same thing when I was younger. I'd grab a few strands and twist em, tie em in little knot and eventually yank em out. Really, I did that. I remember when I quit..I had jerked hair out of the same spot and had a little bare spot. I saw that it was noticeable, got all upset and that was the last time I ever did it. I couldn't afford to do that nowadays, cause I'm running short of hair..*wink* Good luck to you, my friend.:) |

Sounds like obesssive compulsive disorder? I have an idea! If you have long hair, why dont you keep it braided, that way, theres no strands to twist! |
