What do you use to fix scratched cd's???

My son has a playstation game that keeps messing up because it is scratched. What is the best way to try to fix it? I know there is cd scratch remover you can buy but I've also read on a website about some home remedies. The site said that some of these home remedies work better than the store bought stuff. Anyway, some of the things it mentioned were furniture polish (which I tried and it didn't work), baking soda toothpaste, and car wax. Anyway, what works for you?? Thanks:)

Date: 3/28/2003 9:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 16916    I have fixed many cd's with clear nailpolish..you have to be careful that you dont leave any bumps in the polish, then let it dry and it should be good as new Have you tried cleaning it with windex and toilet paper?? Use only toilet paper or a soft cloth though..if not the nailpolish remediy has worked for me in the past

Date: 3/28/2003 10:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 53558    So sorry, Snookums, I cannot help out with this.
Date: 3/28/2003 11:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 18516    I usually wipe mine off with a rag..or something soft.
Date: 3/29/2003 1:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 16538    UGH I'd say burn it (Copy it on computer) but you'd have to mess with his playstation to get that to work. I heard the work baking soda toothpaste, flushing it down the toilet(clean),CD cleaning kits, and I've heard that they have this machine which costs like 20$ that shaves like the very top surface of the CD and I heard that works great.
Date: 3/29/2003 1:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 16538    Oh and if its a PS2 might work on a PS1 I think also. Turn on the playstation without a game in it then search for something that has to do with disc reading speeds and turn the laser speed up and if the scratches arent really mad it should work.
Date: 3/29/2003 8:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 11721    I've heard alcohol will clean them but I have been afraid of ruining it so I have never tried...anyone know if it works?
