How do you tell the difference between a sprained or a twisted ankle?

In second period today we were doing our choreography for our spring concert monday and its was like this side to side toe touching finger snapping thing we were on and I goto the right and it happens that at just that moment my ankle bends the wrong way and I hear a *pop* I stuck it out the rest of the school day and at play practice because I could walk on it but it like really hurts now and it is swollen to the size of half a baseball and its starting to turn blue. Is it just twisted or sprained or just popped??? I know its not broken because I can move my toes and stuff and I can move it from side to side and up and down with some discomfort but I can move it. And I know people say just to keep off of it but that is like the worst you can do because it will become stiff and hurt worse...I'm worried that when I goto bed and wake up in the morning that I won't be able to walk at all....

I was holding it and cryin laying on the ground and Im 32 yrs old..Mine popped and swelled just like that. I went to the hospital the next week just to make sure it wasnt fractured because it hurt so bad. You might have it checked out just to be sure. Mine swelled instantly. Put a ice pack on it and take tylenol for the pain and swelling.

It doesn't sound like a bad sprain if you're walking on it. Most likely it will be a little stiff in the morning and all you can do to help that out is to move it. Be careful from now on though, once you sprain it it's always prone to be sprained again.
Date: 4/10/2003 5:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 44321    You could have a fracture, get checked by the doctor you may need a cast.My hubby had a fracture and the doctor said you can still wiggle toes etc.. so never go by what you can or can't move thought he had a sprain too becasue he could wiggle toes etc.. we were shocked when we found out he had a fracture and had to have a cast on,we almost did not go to the er thinking it was only a sprain
